The opportunity
The Data Analyst, Specialist is responsible for leveraging data-driven insights to support strategic business decisions and improve operational efficiency. This role involves structuring complex business requests into well-defined analytical projects, extracting and analyzing large datasets from multiple sources and developing automated reporting solutions to enhance data accessibility and decision-making.
Support the Investment Data Stewardship function by executing data quality checks, mapping benchmarks, and ensuring accurate distribution of investment data across WS applications and external providers.
Your key responsibilities
- Data Validation: Perform QA on investment data for reports, fact sheets, and participant tools.
- Benchmark Mapping: Maintain and update benchmark and peer-average associations for funds.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Investment Solutions, CDAO, GIFS, and technology teams to ensure data quality across platforms (Polaris, EIP, ViFi, Seismic).
- Issue Resolution: Investigate and remediate data defects in collaboration with application owners.
- Documentation: Update data dictionaries, QA playbooks, and mapping rules.
- External Feeds: Validate data sent to Morningstar and other providers for accuracy and compliance.
Skills and attributes for success
Base Skillsets
- Deep knowledge of investment products, benchmarks, and data structures. (benchmarks, returns, asset allocation).
- Experience working with custodians like Northern Trust/State Street and sending investment data to aggregators like Morningstar
- Ability to set up new funds & create investment data for separate accounts in a cloud environment.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong Data Governance background
- Strength with data tools (SQL, custom databases) and ability to implement QA automation.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Expertise
- Advanced SQL skills (window functions, adv query optimization, complex joins, etc.) and beg to intermediate python
- Advanced visualization/story telling ( Tableau, Tableau parameters, dynamic visualizations)
- Deep understanding of experimental design techniques (A/B, MVT, etc.)
- Practices consistent code version control practices ( utilizing Bitbucket, GitHub)
- Intermediate to adv. Python
- Develops & champions new methods/shared coding components to be leveraged with impacts beyond direct team.
- Evaluates & advocates for new technologies
- Proactively identifies opportunities where business problems can be better solved by advanced analytical methods, partners with DS
Product Ownership
- Maintains and owns various business products
- Oversees and drives product level resilience

- Builds short and intermediate term roadmap and vision for products
- Independently identifies opportunities using data
- Owns and refines product backlog and prioritize backlog items for sprints

- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage complex initiatives.
- Manages delivery expectations communicates progress and potential impediments
- Schedule and lead meetings with clients about data project
- Effectively presents in front of team, project stakeholders, and business leaders
- Proactively identifies issues and problem-solves before raising with leader/team
- Contributes to the vision of the stakeholders & team
- Frames business problems and suggests solutions to stakeholders
- Drives projects forward; Proactively identifies issues and problem-solves, driving to resolution
- Effectively presents in front of mid to senior level audiences
- Manages stakeholder priorities
- Proactively manages information flow to Analytics Management and partners
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, with at least 3 years in advanced data analysis, statistical modeling or business intelligence.
- Bachelor’s degree ( in Computer Science, IT, or a Bachelor’s in Statistics/Mathematics.
- Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, data extraction and performance optimization.
- Expertise in Python or R for data manipulation, automation and advanced analytics.
- Hands-on experience with data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau or Looker to create interactive reports.
- You must be a team player with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
- Constantly update yourself about new technologies in the market
- A winning personality and the ability to become a trusted advisor to the stakeholders

- Strong verbal and written communication, facilitation, relationship-building, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Be highly flexible, adaptable, and creative.
- Comfortable interacting with senior executives (within the firm and at the client)
