Role / Title : Data Governance

Experience Range : 5 - 8 Years

Location : Purpose :

The Data Governance & Process Alignment Lead will act as the bridge between the IT infrastructure team and the Data teams to establish, document, and validate governance processes across the data ecosystem.

This roles primary focus is to gather existing practices, harmonize them across stakeholders, and produce clear, agreed, and approved documentation for key governance and operational processes such as data access, user onboarding, and role responsibilities.

The role requires strong coordination, communication, and analytical skills to bring structure and clarity to how data is governed and managed across teams.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Process Discovery & Alignment :

  • Engage with IT, Security, and Data teams to gather existing processes related to data access, environment setup, landing zones, and governance.
  • Map and analyze current-state processes to identify overlaps, gaps, and inconsistencies.
  • Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to align on standardized, simplified, and compliant processes.
  • Drive agreement and sign-off from all concerned parties.

2. Documentation & Governance Artifacts :

  • Create comprehensive and well-structured documentation for :
  • 1. User onboarding to data environments

    2. Access request and approval workflows

    3. Data access control and role matrix (IT vs Data responsibilities)

    4. Data lifecycle and change management processes

  • Maintain a centralized repository for governance and operational documents with version control and ownership tracking.
  • 3. Cross-Team Collaboration :

  • Act as liaison between :
  • 1. IT / Infra team responsible for landing zones, IAM, and security.

    2. Data team responsible for data ingestion, transformation, and business use cases.

  • Ensure both teams have clarity on their roles, dependencies, and handoff points.
  • Translate technical or business requirements into structured governance processes.
  • 4. Governance Framework & Standards :

  • Support the creation and rollout of a lightweight Data Governance Framework focused on operational clarity and accountability.
  • Ensure alignment with data privacy, compliance, and corporate IT standards.
  • Work with the Data Governance Committee (if applicable) to review and endorse proposed processes.
  • 5. Stakeholder Communication & Change Management :

  • Communicate governance updates, decisions, and new processes effectively across teams.
  • Facilitate reviews, feedback cycles, and approvals for all governance documents.
  • Conduct onboarding or awareness sessions to ensure adherence to approved Deliverables :
  • Approved documentation for data onboarding, access control, and governance workflows
  • RACI matrix defining roles and responsibilities between IT, Data, and Security teams
  • Data access & onboarding handbook for internal users
  • Governance process map summarizing data lifecycle touchpoints and controls
  • Regular updates to governance documentation & Qualifications :
  • Must-Have :

  • 6+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or IT process management
  • Strong background in stakeholder engagement, process mapping, and documentation
  • Understanding of data infrastructure concepts (landing zones, IAM, data pipelines, etc.)
  • Experience facilitating cross-functional discussions and driving consensus
  • Excellent written communication and technical documentation :
  • Familiarity with GCP (BigQuery, IAM, Data Catalog)
  • Knowledge of governance frameworks (DAMA, DCAM, ITIL)
  • Background in compliance or audit for data and access management
  • Experience with Confluence, Lucidchart, or similar documentation Attributes :
  • Strong listener and facilitator; able to reconcile different viewpoints
  • Detail-oriented and structured in documentation
  • Diplomatic and able to gain trust across technical and business teams
  • Proactive in surfacing governance gaps and proposing pragmatic solutions
