The Director - Medical Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership, clinical governance, and operational oversight for all medical services within the hospital. The role ensures the highest standards of clinical care, patient safety, regulatory compliance, medical staff management, and alignment of medical operations with the hospitals strategic goals. The DMS serves as the key liaison between the medical fraternity, hospital administration, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
A. Clinical Governance & Quality :
- Establish, implement, and monitor clinical governance frameworks and patient safety standards.
- Lead regular clinical audits, mortality & morbidity reviews, and root-cause analysis for critical incidents.
- Ensure compliance with NABH, JCI, and statutory norms.
- Drive adherence to clinical protocols, SOPs, infection control, and patient safety indicators.
Medical Operations Oversee day-to-day functioning of all clinical departments, emergency services, and support specialties.
Ensure optimal resource utilisation (OT, ICUs, beds, diagnostics, manpower).Monitor clinical KPIs : ALOS, clinical outcomes, throughput, consultant productivity, ER performance.Medical Staff Lead recruitment, credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluation of consultants and RMOs.
Ensure continuous medical education (CME), training, and competency development.Serve as mediator for clinician grievances, disciplinary matters, and conflict resolution.Strategic Planning & Business Collaborate with management on new programs, service line expansion, and clinical strategy.
Drive speciality growth initiatives, new technology adoption, and revenue optimisation through clinical excellence.Support medical input in budgeting, CapEx planning, and manpower forecasting.Regulatory & Statutory Ensure full compliance with all medical laws and regulatory requirements (Bio-Medical Waste, PCPNDT, MTP, Blood Bank, etc.).
Represent hospital in statutory inspections and medico-legal matters in coordination with Legal.Qualifications & MBBS with MD / MS or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification is mandatory.
Additional qualification in Hospital Administration or Healthcare Management (preferred).15 - 20+ years of clinical and administrative experience, with at least 5 years in a senior medical leadership role in a large multispecialty hospital.Strong understanding of clinical operations, medical compliance, accreditation, and medico-legal frameworks.(ref : iimjobs.com)
