Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for an Arc Furnace PLC Engineer based in the Kolkata metropolitan area. The Arc Furnace PLC Engineer will be responsible for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Engineer designs, programs, and maintains the automated control systems that regulate the high-power electrical and mechanical processes of an electric arc furnace (EAF) . This role requires a blend of electrical, controls, and metallurgical knowledge to ensure safe, efficient, and precise steel or metal production
Qualifications -
- PLC programming : Develop and maintain PLC logic for the entire furnace operation, including scrap charging, electrode regulation, power profiles, tilting, and water-cooling systems.
- HMI / SCADA design : Create and configure Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to give operators a clear and friendly interface for monitoring and controlling the process.
- System commissioning : Work on-site to install, test, and start up new or upgraded control systems, ensuring all components are fully integrated and functional.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance : Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in a fast-paced, heavy industrial environment to minimize production downtime.
- Process optimization : Analyze operational data to identify opportunities for improving furnace performance, such as optimizing energy consumption, enhancing product quality, or reducing maintenance costs.
- Cross-functional collaboration : Work closely with furnace operators, metallurgists, and mechanical and electrical maintenance teams to understand process needs and implement solutions.
- System documentation : Create and maintain detailed documentation, including control narratives, program logic, and electrical schematics.
- Training : Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance personnel on the function and use of the control systems.
- Safety protocols : Ensure all automation systems comply with rigorous industrial safety standards and protocols.
Required skills and qualifications -
Education : A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field is typically required.Experience : Relevant experience with PLC and SCADA programming in a heavy industrial setting, such as a steel plant, foundry, or other process manufacturing facility. Experience in the metals industry, specifically with EAFs, is often preferred. Minimum 3 to 4 years experience required.Technical expertise :Proficiency in programming PLCs from major vendors such as Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, or Mitsubishi.Experience with HMI / SCADA software packages like Wonderware, GE Cimplicity, or Rockwell RSView.Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Profibus, Modbus, and Ethernet / IP.Strong understanding of process instrumentation, control systems, and electrical schematics.Soft skills :Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities for complex troubleshooting.Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.Effective communication skills for coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.Adaptability and a calm demeanor for working under the pressure of a live production environment.Required Skills -
