Job Purpose
A CNC Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines with 4 and 5-axis capabilities. This role involves managing a team of CNC operators, machinists, and technicians, ensuring the efficient and accurate operation of 4-axis and 5-axis CNC equipment. The manager will work to optimize production processes, ensure product quality, and maintain safety and operational standards.
Key responsibilities
Team Management :
Lead, train, and supervise a team of CNC operators and machinists.
Schedule shifts and allocate resources to meet production demands.
Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and ensure continuous improvement in skills and productivity.
Foster a collaborative and safe working environment.
CNC Machine Operations :
Oversee the operation, setup, and programming of 5-axis CNC machines.
Ensure the machines are properly calibrated and adjusted for precision manufacturing.
Troubleshoot any machine issues and perform basic maintenance as necessary.
Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs to improve machining efficiency.
Production Monitoring :
Monitor the production process, ensuring that the quality and timeline of manufacturing projects are adhered to.
Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications.
Maintain detailed records of production progress, machine performance, and material usage.
Quality Assurance
Collaborate with the quality control team to ensure products meet industry standards.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality guidelines, and environmental policies.
Implement corrective actions for any defects or deviations from production standards.
Process Improvement :
Continuously assess and improve machining processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Identify opportunities for new technologies, tools, and processes that could enhance production.
Evaluate and improve workflow, equipment utilization, and turnaround time.
Inventory and Supply Management :
Oversee the inventory of raw materials, tools, and parts required for CNC operations.
Work with procurement to ensure adequate supplies and materials are available without excess inventory.
Manage maintenance schedules for machines, ensuring downtime is minimized.
Safety and Compliance :
Ensure all CNC equipment and operators comply with safety protocols and regulations.
Conduct regular safety audits and training for the team.
Address safety concerns immediately and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (preferred).
Proven experience in operating and managing CNC 4 and 5-axis machines, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing leadership role.
Strong knowledge of CNC programming, particularly for 4 or 5-axis operations (e.g., G-code, CAD / CAM software).
Experience with machine tools, tooling, and CNC machining processes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Ability to manage production schedules and optimize workflows.
Familiarity with industry standards and quality control practices.
Working Conditions :
This role may require standing for extended periods and working in a manufacturing environment.
Occasional overtime and weekend work may be necessary depending on production demands.
