We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our organizations database systems. The Lead DBA will be responsible for ensuring database performance, security, and availability, while guiding a team of database administrators and engineers. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support mission-critical business applications.
Key Responsibilities :
Database Management & Administration :
- Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
- Manage database capacity planning, performance tuning, backup, and recovery strategies.
- Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Implement database patches, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.
Leadership & Team Management :
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of database administrators, ensuring best practices and knowledge sharing.Allocate tasks, monitor workload, and provide technical guidance to the DBA team.Act as the escalation point for critical database issues.Performance Optimization & Scalability :
Analyze and optimize database queries, indexes, and stored procedures for improved performance.Design and implement solutions for scalability to support growing data volumes and business needs.Collaborate with developers and system architects to optimize application-database & Strategic Initiatives :Work with application development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to align database strategies with organizational goals.Support cloud migration initiatives and hybrid database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL, etc.).Provide strategic recommendations for database technologies, tools, and frameworks.Monitoring & Reporting :
Implement monitoring tools to track database performance, capacity, and availability.Prepare regular reports on system health, incidents, and optimization & Skills :Bachelors / Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.8- 10 years of proven experience as a DBA, with at least 3- 5 years in a lead or managerial role.Expertise in RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.Hands-on experience with cloud-based databases (AWS, Azure, GCP).Proficiency in scripting languages (Shell, Python, PowerShell) for automation.Excellent understanding of database security, encryption, and compliance frameworks.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Preferred Attributes :
Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified : Azure Database Administrator, AWS Certified Database Specialty, or similar.Experience in big data, data warehousing, and ETL processes.Exposure to DevOps practices, CI / CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).Ability to thrive in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.(ref : hirist.tech)
