We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Fashion designer to lead the design and product development of JCBI garment manufacturing unit contemporary handcrafted collections. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Indian craft traditions and a refined design sensibility that aligns with Nila’s ethos of minimalism, sustainability, and craft revival. This role will be instrumental in conceptualizing seasonal collections, managing design workflows, leading visual merchandising, and supporting brand-aligned storytelling through photoshoots and product curation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Development & Collection Design
- Lead the end-to-end design and development in close coordination with UK design director
- Finalize tech packs, sampling, and material approvals to ensure timely handover of collections to the production team
- Create concept-driven collections aligned with brand philosophy and seasonal strategies
- Ensure internal design approvals are achieved on schedule
2. Visual Merchandising
Develop and execute visual merchandising strategiesLead the planning and execution of seasonal and thematic displaysCurate stories to communicate product narratives and artisanal impact3. Photoshoot Management
Plan and manage all aspects of collection photoshootsDevelop mood boards, shoot concepts, and storylines in alignment with each collectionCoordinate with photographers, stylists, models, and internal teams to ensure visual outputs are brand-consistent and high quality4. Design Calendar & Workflow Management
Maintain an internal design calendar aligned with production and launch timelinesTrack milestones and ensure design deliverables are met as per deadlinesShare regular updates and reports with relevant stakeholders5. Team Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
Collaborate with project and production teams to ensure feasibility of design and active artisan engagementDocument design processes and contribute to team knowledge-building through structured sharingLiaise closely with the UK design team to integrate global creative direction into local collectionsParticipate in regular design reviews and ensure smooth communication of India-based updates, samples, and development statusQualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field.Years of experience for the role
8–10 years of relevant experience in apparel or textile design, preferably in craft-based or sustainable design environments.Skills and Competencies
