Responsibilities :
- Assessment and Evaluation : Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments on patients in the critical care unit; evaluate respiratory status, oxygenation, and ventilatory needs
- Ventilator Management : Set up and manage mechanical ventilators for patients requiring respiratory support; monitor and adjust ventilator settings based on patient response and physician orders
- Oxygen Therapy : Administer and monitor oxygen therapy for patients with respiratory insufficiency; ensure proper oxygen delivery systems are in place and functioning effectively
- Airway Management : Assist with airway management procedures, including intubation and extubation; perform tracheostomy care and maintenance as needed
- Therapeutic Interventions : Administer therapeutic aerosol medications and other respiratory treatments; conduct chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques
- Patient Education : Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions and therapeutic interventions; provide instructions on home care and self-management
- Collaboration with Healthcare Team : Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care; participate in multidisciplinary rounds
- Documentation : Maintain accurate and timely documentation of respiratory assessments and interventions, including ventilator settings, oxygen levels, and patient responses
- Emergency Response : Respond to respiratory emergencies in the critical care unit; assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as needed
