Position Objective

To lead and oversee the entire commercial function of an integrated steel and power plant, covering procurement, contracts, costing, logistics, inventory, and statutory compliance. The incumbent will be responsible for driving cost efficiency, vendor excellence, and commercial governance aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for raw materials, consumables, spares, and CAPEX.
  • Evaluate and negotiate with suppliers and contractors for cost, quality, and delivery performance.
  • Establish and monitor vendor performance parameters and build long-term supplier partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement budgets, timelines, and quality standards.

Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and manage commercial and operational contracts.
  • Ensure legal and statutory compliance for all commercial agreements.
  • Collaborate with the legal function for dispute resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Costing & Commercial Controls

  • Track and analyze cost structures to identify efficiency opportunities.
  • Maintain product costing and price trend data for raw materials and key inputs.
  • Prepare and present MIS reports on cost performance, budget variance, and savings initiatives.
  • Stores & Inventory Management

  • Oversee material receipt, storage, and issuance in line with production requirements.
  • Optimize inventory to balance operational continuity and working capital.
  • Conduct periodic stock audits and ensure accurate reconciliation.
  • Logistics & Transportation

  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Coordinate with transporters, freight agencies, and regulatory authorities.
  • Optimize freight and logistics costs while ensuring timely dispatches and deliveries.
  • Statutory Compliance & Liaison

  • Ensure accurate accounting and compliance for GST, Customs, Excise, and other taxes.
  • Liaise with state and local authorities for permits, licenses, and industrial approvals.
  • Ensure adherence to Chhattisgarh-specific commercial and industrial regulations.
  • Legal & Compliance Support

  • Provide commercial insights and support for contracts and agreements.
  • Work closely with internal or external legal teams on disputes and compliance issues.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable commercial, factory, and labor laws.
  • Strategic & Business Support

  • Support budgeting, CAPEX planning, and commercial due diligence for new projects.
  • Partner with management to develop cost optimization and efficiency strategies.
  • Benchmark costs, practices, and supplier performance against industry standards.
  • Qualifications & Experience

  • Education : MBA (Finance / Operations) or CA / ICWA
  • Experience : 20+ years in commercial leadership roles
  • Industry Background : Iron & Steel / Cement / Mining / Heavy Engineering
  • Regional Exposure : Experience in Eastern India (Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand) preferred
