Job Title : Transformer Senior Quality Engineer (Internal – Winding / Phase / Connections)

Reports To : Quality Director (Internal)

Position Summary :

The Transformer Quality Engineer / Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for leading all quality assurance, in-process inspections and control activities for power transformer manufacturing. This includes ensuring product conformance to customer specifications, industry standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI), and internal quality management systems (ISO 9001). The role involves driving Quality checks / control, continuous improvement, leading root cause analysis, implementing corrective / preventive actions, and supporting customer audits and technical reviews.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Quality Management & Compliance

  • Oversee and manage the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, design and customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures, inspection standards, and in process test protocols.
  • Ensure all transformers meet internal, customer, and regulatory standards before tanking.
  • Lead customers witness activities in the internal assembly area.

2. Inspection, Testing & Documentation

  • Supervise in-process quality checks of internal assembly and inspect all the critical areas of the assembly.
  • Review design for manufacturability, foresee any assembly related issue and compliance issue and correct as required.
  • Participate in the design review meeting and provide insights into improved product quality.
  • Ensure traceability and proper documentation of inspection results, NCRs, and deviations.
  • Review and approve Quality checks of the plant.
  • 3. Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions

  • Lead investigations for non-conformances, failures, and customer complaints.
  • Identify root causes using structured methods (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D, etc.).
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain to prevent recurrence.
  • 4. Continuous Improvement

  • Drive quality and process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality cost, defect rate, and rework.
  • Support design reviews and provide feedback from manufacturing and testing perspectives.
  • 5. Leadership & Customer Interface

  • Lead and mentor the Quality team (inspectors, engineers, document controllers).
  • Represent the plant during customer inspections, audits, and technical reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and customers regarding quality issues and resolutions.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience in quality management within power transformer manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of transformer design, testing standards (IEC / IEEE / ANSI), and manufacturing processes.
  • Certified Lead Auditor (ISO 9001) preferred.
  • Experience with RCA, CAPA, and quality tools (FMEA, MSA, SPC).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Knowledge of insulation systems, core and coil manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Hands-on experience with in-process testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems for quality data management.
