Description : About the Role :
We are seeking a technically focused Cloud FinOps Engineering Manager to integrate financial accountability with deep engineering practices across our multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
This role is crucial for maximizing cloud efficiency and optimizing technical resource consumption.
You will be instrumental in translating technical usage patterns into financial insights, embedding cost governance directly into our DevOps / MLOps pipelines, and using scripting and automation to drive substantial cost savings.
This is a hands-on role requiring expertise in cloud architecture, scripting, data analysis, and driving technical cost-optimization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities (Technical & Engineering Focus) :
Cloud Architecture Optimization :
- Conduct deep-dive technical reviews of existing cloud architectures (e.g., EC2, EKS / AKS, Lambda, Storage solutions) to identify and execute rightsizing, re-architecting, and scheduling opportunities.
- Design and implement mechanisms for identifying and decommissioning unused or underutilized technical resources.
- Spearhead the adoption of cost-effective services (e.g., serverless, spot instances, managed services) in collaboration with engineering teams.
Automation and Tooling Development :
Develop, deploy, and maintain Python / SQL scripts and automation pipelines to gather granular cloud usage data, automate reporting, and enforce governance (e.g., tagging enforcement, shutdown schedules).Integrate FinOps principles and controls directly into the CI / CD pipeline (Infrastructure-as-Code - IaC) to ensure cost is a core design consideration from deployment.Administer and configure cloud cost management tools (CoreStack, CloudHealth, etc.) focusing on data ingestion, mapping, anomaly detection, and custom reporting logic.Data Analysis and Technical Reporting :
Utilize advanced data analysis tools (Power BI, Tableau) to create technical consumption dashboards showing resource utilization, cost allocation, and performance-to-cost ratios for engineers and product owners.Perform complex unit cost analysis to determine the cost per customer, feature, or transaction, leveraging native cloud billing APIs and data services (e.g., AWS CUR, Azure Cost Management APIs).Provide technical guidance to engineering teams on optimal resource selection, provisioning strategies, and leveraging commitment programs (Savings Plans, Reserved Instances).Cross-Functional Collaboration :
Partner directly with DevOps, SRE, and Development teams to establish technical standards and best practices for cost-aware infrastructure provisioning and application development.Drive the implementation of robust tagging and metadata strategies to enable accurate, granular cost allocation and technical reporting.Qualifications We Seek in You :
Education : Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a highly technical / quantitative field.
Experience : 5+ Years of experience in Cloud Operations, DevOps, SRE, or a highly technical FinOps role, with a proven track record of driving significant, measurable cloud cost optimization.
Core Technical Skills :
Deep hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), including their services (Compute, Database, Networking, Storage), architecture, and native billing / cost APIs.Expertise in scripting and data analysis using Python (or similar) and advanced SQL for automating tasks and complex data manipulation.Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates) and CI / CD pipelines.FinOps & Tooling : Practical experience administering and leveraging cloud cost management tools (e.g., CoreStack, CloudHealth, Cloudability, nOps) for advanced technical analysis and governance.
Data Visualization : Proficiency with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) to translate complex technical / financial data into actionable insights.
Communication : Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate technical trade-offs and cost impacts to both technical peers and financial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills :
Cloud Architecture Certifications : AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or GCP Professional Cloud Architect.Skills : Expertise in FinOps principles, advanced Python development for cloud automation, and AWS cost optimization services (Cost Explorer, Compute Optimizer, Trusted Advisor).Prior experience embedding cost-control mechanisms within a high-volume, production-scale multi-cloud environment(ref : hirist.tech)
