Job description

Who We Are

We are a remote-first SaaS company, bringing true digital transformation to the global shipping industry. We enhance the way shipping professionals work by creating technology for the maritime industry and bringing it to market.

With over 85% of the world’s trade transported by sea, we have a huge opportunity to transform existing manual, offline, and disparate processes into a tech-enabled and data-rich experience, enabling better decision-making and fewer costly, time-consuming mistakes. Our premier platform, Sea, is the world’s first digital shipping platform that provides cloud-based applications focused on the pre-fixture and at-fixture space. These connect to create efficiencies and digitize workflows. To understand more about us, please visit https : / / www.sea.live .

The Role

As a Data Scientist you will play a vital role in developing and delivering Carbon solutions. You will build predictive models, validate datasets, and create emission / bunker dashboards to support our clients in meeting their sustainability and compliance targets. Combining data science expertise with a strong understanding of data engineering and maritime, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy, optimize workflows, and drive impactful insights.

  • Deliver pre-fixture visibility for our customers into vessel financials and emissions including voyage and fuel expenses through data-driven insights, fostering competition for fuel-efficient vessels and incentivizing eco-friendly innovations.
  • Develop actionable solutions that align our customers with sustainability carbon reporting, regulatory compliance, empower them to evaluate and reward lower-emitting vessels, and support the maritime industry’s shift toward a sustainable future

Responsibilities

Market Expertise & Product Development

  • Leverage deep knowledge of vessel operations, factors influencing performance and emissions reporting requirements to guide strategic and product decisions.
  • Stay updated on evolving emissions regulations, embedding regulatory standards into data models and ensuring accurate carbon exposure tracking per voyage and historical emissions.
  • Develop and maintain data visualisations (current tooling is Power BI) to communicate insights and KPIs effectively. Generate carbon footprint and compliance reports for clients, as well as regulatory and non-regulatory bodies.
  • Act as a thought leader and industry expert, engaging with charterers, owners, and brokers to co-create actionable market insights and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Data Science & Predictive Analytics

  • Build and refine predictive models specific to the maritime industry to predict emissions trends and assess operational impact, with a focus on enabling sustainable shipping decisions.
  • Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning to extract high-quality insights from large datasets (such as AIS data, noon reports, and compliance data).
  • Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to establish seamless, efficient data pipelines that ensure data reliability and accuracy.
  • Develop outcome-focused frameworks to measure the impact of data insights, predictive models, and optimization strategies on user profitability and engagement.
  • Platform Integration

  • Collaborate with engineers and the data science team to implement best-practice model performance improvements, including hyper-parameter tuning and resampling.
  • Support the development of tools that enhance carbon tracking and emissions analytics for maritime stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Innovation

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for client data requests, clarifying analytical approaches and ensuring alignment with client needs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align data-driven insights with business objectives and product strategy.
  • Lead innovation by identifying emerging trends, pioneering new analytics methodologies, and shaping product features to ensure the products remain at the forefront of the maritime SaaS space.
  • Skills and Experience

    Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience

  • Data analysis, data science, or maritime analytics.
  • Expertise in emissions management and regulations, environmental compliance, or maritime industries.
  • Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation and model development.
  • Experience in working with large-scale datasets and utilizing big data technologies (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Spark)
  • Experience in end-to-end Power BI development
  • Strong knowledge of predictive modeling, machine learning techniques, and statistical analysis.
  • Soft Skills

  • Analytical mindset with a passion for uncovering actionable insights from complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to translate technical findings into business value.
  • Self-driven, adaptable, and innovative in a dynamic SaaS environment.
