Application Architect

Description : JOB PURPOSE :

1. Solution Architecture Application Review

Review solution architectures (HLD / LLD) with focus on application design, modularity, and scalability.

Validate alignment of application designs with the bank's enterprise architecture principles, standards, and target-state blueprints.

Provide recommendations to ensure robust, maintainable, and high-performing application architectures.

2. Application Architecture Governance

Represent the application domain in Enterprise Architecture Design Authority (EADA) or equivalent governance forums.

Ensure solution proposals adhere to enterprise application standards, frameworks, and guidelines.

Enforce consistency in design patterns, frameworks, and technology stack adoption across the bank.

3. Application Design & Best Practices

Define and promote reference architectures for common business domains (core banking, lending, payments, CRM, ERP, risk).

Recommend design patterns for :

Multi-tiered and microservices applications

API-first and event-driven architecture

Cloud-native and containerized applications

Secure session management, caching, and transaction handling

Guide teams in application modernization and migration from legacy monoliths to modern platforms.

4. Security & Compliance in Applications

Work closely with Security Architect to embed security-by-design principles in application solutions.

Ensure application designs implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and data privacy controls.

Validate compliance with banking regulations (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, Central Bank standards).

Identify risks like insecure coding, weak integrations, or data leakage, and recommend mitigations.

5. Operational Resilience & Performance

Ensure application designs support resilience, scalability, and high availability.

Recommend fault tolerance, load balancing, failover, and disaster recovery (DR / BCP) mechanisms.

Validate application performance SLAs (response time, transaction throughput, concurrency).

6. Collaboration & Stakeholder Alignment

Partner with solution architects, business teams, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure end-to-end application alignment.

Act as a trusted advisor to IT delivery leads and program managers on application architecture decisions.

Ensure applications are designed for reusability, interoperability, and agility across channels.

7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

Drive adoption of modern application technologies (microservices, DevSecOps, API gateways, serverless computing, low-code platforms).

Stay updated on industry trends in banking applications (digital channels, cloud-native apps, container orchestration).

Continuously enrich the Enterprise Application Repository with reusable design assets, standards, and lessons learned.

8. Design end-to-end solution architectures for banking applications, ensuring alignment with business goals, enterprise architecture standards, and technology strategy.

9. Evaluate and recommend appropriate architecture patterns, tools, and platforms for new and existing solutions.

10.Create architecture artifacts such as solution blueprints, sequence diagrams, data flow diagrams, integration designs, and interface contracts.

11.Work with cross-functional teams including business, development, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

12.Translate business requirements into scalable and modular solution designs. Create detailed solution architecture documents including logical, physical, integration, and deployment views.

13.Ensure non-functional requirements (performance, security, reliability, scalability) are properly addressed.

14.Review & document, if proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives to validate emerging technologies or solution approaches.

15.Collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure that the solution architecture supports continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI / CD).

16.Address security aspects such as data encryption, access control, and identity management in the architecture.

17.Present architecture proposals and review outcomes to architecture governance boards and executive stakeholders.

18.Identify architectural risks and define mitigation strategies early in the project lifecycle.

19.Assess the impact of proposed changes on existing applications, infrastructure, and enterprise architecture.

20.Capture and document architecture decisions made during critical meetings, workshops, and design discussions.

KEY RESULT AREA

Explore & recommend new technologies supporting Cloud, On Prem Applications

Present Solution designs and seek approval in Architecture review boards

Should be strong in solution design.

Conduct and drive POC's.

Derive Blueprints, High Level Design (HLD) and Noting's to Solutions

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

Certifications in architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) are preferred.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

Banking, Financial Services, or Fintech.

Prior experience in large-scale banking transformation or modernization programs.

Required Skills & Experience

10 to 15+ years of IT experience, with at least 5 years as a Solution Architect for large-scale enterprise systems.

Proven experience in banking and financial services, particularly in areas such as Core Banking, Payments, Digital Banking, Lending, and Channels.

Strong understanding of banking business processes and compliance requirements.

Hands-on experience in designing solutions using integration tools (e.g., IBM Integration Bus & IBM API Gateway) and messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka, MQ).

Familiarity with security protocols and data protection standards in banking environments (e.g., OAuth2, TLS, PKI, DLP).

Cloud architecture experience (Azure, AWS,or GCP) with hybrid integration knowledge.

Strong knowledge of DevOps, CI / CD, microservices, and containerization (Docker / Kubernetes).

Familiar with enterprise architecture frameworks like TOGAF or BIAN.
