Note : This is a hybrid role, combining remote and on-site work, requiring 3 days in the office, and relocation to Pune.

Who you could be working with

You’ll be part of a high-performing team responsible for building distributed, high scale and data-intensive integrations that extend our market-leading core SaaS product. Partnered with other SaaS providers and cloud vendors (e.g. Slack, Atlassian and AWS), our products commonly incorporate the latest technologies and features to provide cutting-edge solutions to our customers. We enjoy working with Engineers who possess a strong growth mindset, are enthusiastic at problem-solving and can demonstrate leadership qualities. Our integrations process around 10 million events per day, so you will be challenged by the global scale and complexity of these systems.

What you’ll get to do each day

Experience designing, leading and implementing customer-facing software projects. We need you to have experience with good and bad software projects and to have an opinion on what helps us lean more towards good.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to influence others within the organisation with diplomacy and tact.

Detail-oriented, with a focus on the delivery of quality work with a mindfulness of timelines needed for the business.

Ability to influence with authority, inspire and mentor others.

Use best practices at every stage of the development cycle, peer code review and rapid deployment.

What you bring to the role

At least 6+ years of commercial software engineering experience

3+ years of experience in frontend development using JavaScript and React.

3+ years of experience in Typescript, NodeJS, Java or Golang building high volume applications

A focus on ensuring that solutions being designed and built today will still meet needs over the next 18+ months

Experience identifying and solving reliability problems at scale while working across full stack

Able to manage time effectively to allow a balance of individual contribution and being interruptible to assist with issues and queries from other engineers

Ability and willingness to quickly learn and apply different programming languages and technologies based on project requirements

Experience building integrations with popular SaaS products such as Jira, Slack, Shopify, Microsoft Teams is an added plus.

Tech Stack

Our code is written primarily in JavaScript / TypeScript. Golang, Ruby / Ruby on Rails

Our frontends use frameworks including React, Redux, React Testing Library, Cypress, Jest.

Our servers live in AWS.

Our applications / services are deployed via Spinnaker to Kubernetes.

Our data is stored in Aurora / MySQL, DynamoDB, and S3.

About Zendesk’s Product Development Center of Excellence in Pune

Zendesk is in the exciting early stages of establishing a Product Development Center of Excellence in Pune. This center is being developed gradually to build and scale our operations with an amazing bunch of people. Our vision is to create a vibrant, innovative hub where all team members will eventually transition into FTE roles.

As an early hire, you will have a unique opportunity to be a pivotal part of this journey. You’ll play a key role in shaping the culture, processes, and success of our Pune site, contributing directly to the growth and maturity of our Product Development Center of Excellence. Your expertise and insights will help lay the foundation for a world-class development center, influencing the way we build and deliver products at Zendesk.

Please note that Zendesk can only hire candidates who are physically located and plan to work from Karnataka or Maharashtra. Please refer to the location posted on the requisition for where this role is based.

Hybrid : In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
