Position Overview :
The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and upkeep across the entire residential university campus — including academic buildings, hostels, staff quarters, administrative offices, dining areas, and common facilities. The role requires effective planning, deployment, and supervision of housekeeping manpower, ensuring optimal utilization of resources, adherence to hygiene and safety standards, and smooth coordination with multiple stakeholders to provide a clean and healthy living-learning environment.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Campus-Wide Housekeeping Operations
- Oversee and ensure daily cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep across all academic blocks, hostels, staff quarters, dining halls, auditoriums, and public areas.
- Conduct regular campus inspections and ensure that cleaning standards are maintained uniformly across all zones.
- Ensure timely waste segregation, collection, and disposal in compliance with environmental and safety norms.
- Supervise pest control, laundry, and linen management activities within hostels and guest houses.
- Ensure hygiene in restrooms, corridors, staircases, and outdoor campus areas such as pathways, gardens, and parking spaces.
2. Manpower Planning & Deployment
Prepare and manage manpower allocation plans for academic, residential, and administrative areas.Create shift rosters ensuring round-the-clock housekeeping coverage in hostels and residential areas.Monitor staff attendance, discipline, and productivity; take corrective measures where necessary.Coordinate with HR for recruitment, induction, and periodic training of housekeeping personnel.Assess manpower requirements for special events, semester openings / closings, and examinations.3. Vendor & Resource Management
Coordinate with facility management vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with service-level agreements (SLAs).Monitor and evaluate vendor performance periodically.Maintain inventory and ensure adequate stock of cleaning materials, toiletries, tools, and equipment.Liaise with the Purchase Department for procurement and budgetary approvals.Implement best practices to minimize wastage and optimize resource utilization.4. Budgeting & Financial Control
Prepare the annual housekeeping budget covering manpower, materials, consumables, and maintenance.Track expenditures against approved budgets and propose cost-saving initiatives.Review quotations, participate in vendor negotiations, and ensure budgetary compliance.5. Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to hygiene, sanitation, and occupational health and safety regulations across campus.Conduct regular training on safe handling of cleaning agents, waste management, and fire safety.Maintain updated records of housekeeping audits, compliance reports, and safety checklists.Support in implementing sustainable cleaning and waste management practices.6. Event & Adhoc Coordination
Plan and execute housekeeping support for university events, conferences, cultural programs, and ceremonies.Manage special cleaning drives during student admissions, convocation, and festival celebrations.Handle emergency cleaning requirements and adhoc requests promptly and efficiently.Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management / Business Administration or equivalent.8–12 years of experience in housekeeping or facility management, preferably in large residential campuses, universities.Proven track record of managing large teams and outsourced housekeeping contracts.Key Skills & Competencies :
Strong leadership, supervision, and team management abilities.Excellent planning, organizational, and multitasking skills.Expertise in budgeting, manpower planning, and cost optimization.Good communication and interpersonal skills for coordination with multiple departments.Knowledge of modern housekeeping techniques, tools, and eco-friendly cleaning practices.Awareness of statutory compliance, safety norms, and waste management systems.Work Environment :
This is a campus-wide role requiring daily supervision across academic and residential blocks. The position demands flexibility to manage shift operations, weekends, and emergency requirements, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming campus for students, faculty, and staff.
