Primary Responsibilities

- Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Provide training and education to family / caregivers and others.
- Work collaboratively with professionals from other disciplines.
- Combining traditional therapies with new and innovative techniques.
- Using standardized assessments to monitor progress at regular intervals and review treatment plans where necessary.
- Motivating patients, especially when progress is slow, to stick to the treatment plan and provide evidence when they seem despondent.
- Maintaining patient databases and meticulously updating medical records.
- Establishing networks with other speech-language pathologists and healthcare professionals by attending regular conferences and professional events.
- Staying abreast of developments in speech-language pathology and in the broader medical field.
- Teach preventive strategies to family members on choking and aspiration
