1. Preparation
System Requirements : Ensure the target servers meet the system requirements for each Posit product (OS, CPU, RAM, disk space).
Network Configuration : Verify that the servers have access to the necessary repositories, and allow for inbound / outbound network traffic as required by each product (e.g., for license validation, package repositories).
2. Installation of Posit Workbench (formerly RStudio Server Pro)
Install R : Install the version of R that will be used. Multiple versions can be supported.
Install Python : Install the version of Python that will be used. Multiple versions can be supported.
Install Quarto : Install the version of Quarto that will be used. Multiple versions can be supported.
Install Workbench : Download and install the Posit Workbench package for your OS (e.g., .rpm for RHEL / CentOS, .deb for Ubuntu / Debian).
Configure Workbench : Configure the Workbench through its configuration files (rserver.conf and rsession.conf), setting up users, session management, resource limits, etc.
Start the Service : Start the Workbench service and ensure it runs on startup.
Testing : Access the Workbench through a web browser to verify the installation is successful.
3. Installation of Posit Connect
Install Connect : Download and install the Posit Connect package for your OS.
Configure Connect : Edit the connect.gcfg configuration file to set up the server URL, authentication methods, email notifications, and storage options.
Set Up SSL : Configure SSL certificates for secure HTTP connections.
Start the Service : Start the Posit Connect service and ensure it runs on startup.
Testing : Publish content to Connect from RStudio (Posit Workbench) to confirm it is working as expected.
4. Installation of Posit Package Manager
Install Package Manager : Download and install the Posit Package Manager package for your OS.
Configure Repositories : Set up CRAN, Bioconductor, and custom package repositories in the Package Manager configuration.
Configure Access : Set up access controls, including user authentication and permissions.
Start the Service : Start the Posit Package Manager service and ensure it runs on startup.
Testing : Access the Package Manager through a web browser, configure client R environments to use the Package Manager, and install packages to verify the setup.
5. Ongoing Maintenance
Update and Patch Management : Regularly apply updates and patches to the Posit products and their dependencies.
License Management : Monitor license usage and renew licenses as needed.
Support : Establish a support plan, either through internal teams or via Posit support.
