SSD Firmware Architect
Micron Technology is a leader in the semiconductor industry developing and manufacturing DRAM and NAND Flash products. As part of the continued growth in non-volatile memory technologies, Micron continues to invest in the internal development of Solid State Drives (SSD). As an SSD Firmware Architect, you will work as an integral part of the architecture and product planning team to define storage systems for our customers.
Responsibilities and Tasks :
Your new responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following areas :
- Identify and define innovative product concepts and SSD FW architectures
- Provide Product Leadership (more than just firmware) across all product areasIncluding understanding strategic architectural decisions affecting multiple programs and products both near term and futureMaximize reuse of existing TLC architecture, design, and codeMinimize QLC specific or complex MAG features where possible. Understanding feature and code leverage possibilitiesUnderstanding HW features and capabilities including hw assist
- Drive Product-wide coordination (scheduling, follow-up, feasibility assessments) across all areas
- Understanding and providing feedback regarding full system architecture including : Mag and NAND features and limitations in respect to overall system architecture
- Provide guidance to the development team including aiding dev team and program management in scoping effort and work breakdown
- Accept, clarify, and provide guidance or feedback on product requirements or change requests including : Customer requirementsBusiness Unit requirementsFirmware Architecture requirementsPartner requirementsSystem requirements
- Coordinate, collaborate, and provide guidance on matters of technical architecture and product requirements with all stakeholders(Arch, FW, Validation, Program Management, Product Leads, Customers)
- Act as architecture representative for local siteFirst pass architecture questions handled locally (if applicable)Conduit for cross site architecture discussions
- Maintain strong technical engineering relationships with customers, partner FW architects and key technologists to identify and define innovative memory products
- Work with Micron technologists, design engineers and engineering teams to ensure successful implementation and feasibility demonstration of new product concepts
- Develop new product FW architecture specifications by POC
- Generate new intellectual property and patents
- Evangelize Micron’s new products, technologies, and capabilities; attend and represent Micron at appropriate industry consortia, technical organizations, and technical conferences
- Identify key industry technical trends and competitive landscapes; stay abreast of new advanced technology and architecture trends in the market
Experience :
Successful candidates for this position will have :
A minimum of 10 years of SSD Firmware Architecture, design, product, test, support, system, or applications engineering experienceSystems experience, including : SSD and or HDD architecture, design or analysis and / or troubleshootingFirmware-based storage devicesTechnical skills, including : Detailed knowledge of NAND flash, solid state drives, and / or hard disk drivesStorage protocols : SATA / ATA, SAS and / or NVMeNAND interfaces : ONFI, ToggleNAND management : error detection and correctionStorage systems : RAID systems, blades and workstationsDemonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skillsExcellent verbal and written communications skillsHighly organized, self-motivated and disciplined abilitiesAbility to work with other engineers across multiple disciplines, as well as customers of various positionsAbility to travel and be available for international travelEducation :
BSEE or equivalent required
