Smarsh is seeking a visionary Senior Technical Product Manager to lead the development of next-generation observability products built on our Fabric platform.
You will define and execute the strategy for building comprehensive observability solutions that enable customers to achieve full-stack visibility, proactive incident management, and data-driven operational excellence.
This role requires deep expertise in modern observability platforms, platform engineering, and the ability to transform complex telemetry data into actionable product experiences.
What You'll Do :
Build Observability Products :
- Design and ship observability products that leverage telemetry data (metrics, logs, traces, events) to deliver actionable insights and automated workflows.
- Define product strategy for observability-as-a-service offerings, including SLO / SLI management, anomaly detection, and intelligent alerting.
- Create differentiated product experiences around observability data, including custom dashboards, correlation engines, and root cause analysis tools.
- Drive the product roadmap for observability platform capabilities that enable both internal teams and external customers.
Platform Product Leadership :
Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for observability platform features, from discovery through launch and iteration.Build products that abstract complexity and democratize observability across technical and non-technical users.Define APIs, integrations, and extensibility models that allow customers to build on top of your observability platform.Establish product metrics and KPIs that measure adoption, value delivery, and platform health.Modern Observability Strategy :
Champion modern observability practices including OpenTelemetry adoption, distributed tracing, and unified telemetry pipelines.Drive strategy for observability data management, including cardinality optimization, data retention policies, and cost efficiency.Define product vision for AI / ML-powered observability features such as predictive analytics, intelligent noise reduction, and automated remediation.Stay ahead of industry trends in observability, including eBPF, continuous profiling, and real-time Product Development :Partner deeply with customers to understand their observability maturity, pain points, and desired outcomes.Translate complex operational challenges into elegant product solutions.Conduct user research, beta programs, and feedback loops to validate product hypotheses.Build customer advisory boards and champion programs to co-create observability Leadership :Collaborate with engineering teams to balance technical feasibility with product vision.Work with platform engineers to ensure observability is built into the fabric from day one (shift-left observability).Partner with sales and customer success to position observability products and drive adoption.Influence architecture decisions to ensure telemetry-first design principles. What You Bring :
Observability Platform Expertise :
Deep hands-on experience with modern observability platforms (Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, Grafana Cloud, Honeycomb, or similar).Strong understanding of OpenTelemetry, telemetry data models, and observability pipelines.Experience with distributed tracing, metrics aggregation, log analytics, and event correlation.Knowledge of observability data stores (Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch).Product Management Excellence :
5+ years building and shipping technical products, preferably in observability, monitoring, or platform domains.Proven track record of taking products from 0?1 or scaling existing products to new markets.Experience defining product strategy, writing PRDs, and managing complex roadmaps.Strong analytical skills with ability to leverage data to drive product decisions and measure success.Technical Depth :
Understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, containers (Kubernetes / Docker), and service mesh technologies.Familiarity with infrastructure as code, GitOps, and platform engineering principles.Knowledge of SRE practices, SLO / SLI frameworks, and incident management workflows.Experience with data pipelines, streaming architectures (Kafka, Kinesis), and real-time analytics.Communication & Leadership :
Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences (executives, engineers, customers).Experience influencing without authority and building consensus across organizations.Strong storytelling skills to articulate product vision and drive adoption.Ability to mentor junior PMs and elevate product thinking across teams.Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).Experience working at an observability vendor or building observability products. Background in SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.Familiarity with AI / ML applications in observability (AIOps, anomaly detection).Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid architectures.Understanding of compliance, security, and data governance in observability contexts.Active participation in observability communities (OpenTelemetry, CNCF, etc.Why This Role Matters :
Shape the Future of Observability You'll define how organizations achieve operational excellence through modern observability practices.
Your products will enable customers to move from reactive monitoring to proactive, intelligence-driven operations.
Build Platform Products at Scale Lead the development of observability products that serve as a competitive differentiator for Smarsh's Fabric platform, enabling customers to build, run, and optimize their applications with confidence.
Drive Innovation Work at the intersection of observability, AI / ML, and platform engineering to create next-generation products that set new industry standards for operational visibility and intelligence.
Customer Impact Your work directly empowers customers to reduce MTTR, prevent outages, optimize costs, and deliver better experiences to their end users through comprehensive observability.
