Experience Required : Minimum 8–10 years of teaching French, with at least 3–5 years in academic / departmental leadership roles

Qualification : Master’s degree in French Language / Literature (or equivalent) with B.Ed. / M.Ed.; IB training and certifications preferred

Overview

A reputed Residential IB School in Tamil Nadu is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Department (HOD) – French to lead its French language program across the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) . The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator with proven expertise in teaching French as a second language, deep knowledge of IB curriculum frameworks, and strong leadership skills to mentor faculty and enhance student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership : Design, implement, and oversee the French curriculum in alignment with IB standards, ensuring excellence across MYP and DP levels.

Teaching & Mentorship : Deliver engaging French lessons that develop language proficiency, cultural awareness, and critical thinking among students. Mentor French faculty and provide professional development opportunities.

Curriculum Development : Review and update teaching resources, lesson plans, and assessment frameworks to reflect IB philosophy and international best practices.

Departmental Administration : Lead departmental meetings, manage timetables, and coordinate inter-house and inter-school French language events, competitions, and cultural activities.

Assessment & Reporting : Oversee formative and summative assessments, analyze results, and implement strategies to support differentiated learning needs.

IB Programme Coordination : Collaborate with the IB Coordinator to ensure compliance with programme requirements, documentation, and smooth conduct of IB examinations.

Student Engagement : Inspire students to pursue French in higher education, facilitate exchange programs, and encourage participation in Model United Nations, international language Olympiads, and cultural festivals.

Residential School Contribution : Actively participate in pastoral care, student mentoring, and co-curricular activities as part of the residential school environment.

Desired Profile

Strong academic background with specialization in French Language and Literature.

Minimum 8–10 years of French teaching experience, preferably in IB / IGCSE schools.

Prior leadership experience as HOD / Coordinator is highly desirable.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Commitment to the holistic development of students in a residential school setup.
