Job description

 Analyse the Job Description

  • Read the JD carefully and highlight key responsibilities, required skills, keywords (e.g., “talent acquisition”, “employee relations”, “HR analytics”, “stakeholder management”).
  • Note which qualifications / experiences are emphasised most (for instance, leadership of HR teams, change management, HRIS implementation).
  • Identify what seems to matter most to the employer (for example : “drive HR strategy”, “improve employee engagement”, “reduce turnover”).

 Match your resume content to that JD

  • In your summary or profile section , use language that mirrors the JD : mention years of experience, highlight your HR leadership role, mention key outcomes.
  • In your skills section (or embedded within your profile / summary) include the keywords from the JD so that both an ATS and a human reader see the match.
  • In your professional experience / bullet points , align your story :
  • Focus on roles / projects most relevant to the JD (you may choose to compress less relevant ones).
  • Use action verbs + quantifiable achievements (numbers, percentages, cost savings, improved metrics). For example : instead of “led recruitment”, say “led recruitment of 120 roles across 3 geographies, reducing time-to-hire by 25%”.
  • Tailor job titles or how you describe your roles to reflect the one in the JD — if you held a similar role with a slightly different title, you can clarify (Senior HR Manager (Talent & Org Dev)) as long as it’s honest.
  • Remove or de-emphasize experiences / skills that don’t align with the JD — every line should serve the target role.
  •  Format & ATS-friendliness

  • Use simple formats, avoid heavy graphics, text boxes, headers / footers that ATS systems struggle with.
  • Ensure section headings are clear (“Summary”, “Professional Experience”, “Education”, etc.).
  • Use standard fonts and make sure keywords are spelled as they appear in the JD (and common variants).
  • File name : include your name + role (e.g., “AnitaPawar_SeniorHRManager_Resume.pdf”).
  •  Proof & polish

  • Ensure your bullet points are concise, start with action verbs, emphasize impact.
  • Check for grammar, consistency (e.g., years / months format, spelling of company names, alignment).
  • Avoid generic phrases (e.g., “responsible for”, “worked on”) — instead use outcomes.
  • Make sure your resume reflects you — avoid being purely generic or overly AI-sounding.
