Job Title : Agriculture Economist
Project Summary
The project focuses on the development and management of major flood and irrigation initiatives aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity, water use efficiency, and climate resilience. Funded by international financing institutions such as ADB, World Bank, or other MFIs , the project integrates economic, financial, and environmental sustainability considerations to ensure effective allocation of resources. The Agriculture Economist will play a key role in assessing project feasibility, conducting cost–benefit analysis, and developing policies that promote water conservation while maximizing agricultural and social outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies and prepare detailed cost–benefit analyses for agricultural, irrigation, and flood management interventions.
- Evaluate the economic value of water resources and assess trade-offs for multiple uses.
- Design and recommend policies and strategies to promote water conservation and efficient resource utilization.
- Ensure that project activities are aligned with equity, financial viability, and environmental sustainability goals .
- Provide input to financial management, accounting, and resource allocation strategies for agricultural and water sector projects.
- Collaborate with the Team Leader, Environment Specialist, and other experts to integrate economic considerations into DPRs and bidding documents.
- Support the preparation of project reports and donor-compliance documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
Post-Graduate degree in Economics / Agricultural Economics or equivalent.Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience in financial management and accounting for agricultural, irrigation, and flood management projects.Experience in projects funded by ADB, World Bank, or other MFIs preferred.Strong expertise in cost–benefit analysis, resource allocation, and agricultural economics.Proven knowledge of water conservation policy design and economic evaluation techniques.Excellent analytical, communication, and reporting skills.Duration & Input
