Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Plant Manager to oversee all aspects of our BSFL processing facility operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the complete bioconversion process, from organic waste input to high-value protein output, ensuring optimal production efficiency, quality standards, safety compliance, and environmental sustainability. This role requires expertise in biotechnology processes, manufacturing operations, and sustainable production methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
BSFL Production Management
Bioconversion Process Oversight :
- Manage the complete BSFL lifecycle from egg hatching to larval harvesting and processing
- Oversee breeding unit operations including adult fly mating, egg production, and larvae nursery management
- Monitor and optimize waste pre-processing operations including organic waste sorting, grinding, and formulation
- Ensure proper larvae feeding, growth monitoring, and harvesting at optimal developmental stages
- Supervise post-processing activities including larvae drying, protein extraction, and packaging
Production Planning & Optimization :
Develop and execute production schedules to meet customer demand for animal feed productsOptimize bioconversion efficiency targeting 50-80% waste reduction and 20% biomass conversionManage production capacity planning and resource allocation across different production linesImplement lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and maximize protein yieldCoordinate with quality control teams to ensure 60%+ protein content in final productsProcess Control & Monitoring :
Maintain optimal environmental conditions including temperature (25-30°C), humidity (60-70%), and pH levelsMonitor larvae growth rates, feed conversion ratios, and mortality percentagesImplement process control systems for automated monitoring and adjustmentEnsure proper waste-to-protein conversion ratios and product consistencyManage production data collection and analysis for continuous improvementQuality Assurance & Compliance
Product Quality Management :
Ensure final products meet specifications for aquaculture, poultry, and pet food applicationsImplement quality control protocols for protein content, nutritional value, and safety parametersManage testing procedures for essential amino acids, calcium, iron, and B-complex vitaminsOversee contamination control and maintain sterile processing environmentsCoordinate with laboratories for regular product testing and certificationRegulatory Compliance :
Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, FSSAI guidelines, and animal feed standardsMaintain documentation for organic certification and sustainable production practicesImplement HACCP principles and maintain GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)Coordinate with regulatory authorities for inspections and compliance auditsManage environmental compliance including waste discharge and emission standardsOperations & Team Management
Facility Operations :
Oversee daily plant operations including production, maintenance, and logisticsManage utility systems including power, water, ventilation, and waste treatmentCoordinate preventive maintenance schedules for bioconversion equipment and infrastructureEnsure optimal plant layout for efficient workflow and contamination preventionManage inventory of organic waste feedstock, processing materials, and finished productsTeam Leadership :
Lead multidisciplinary teams including production staff, technicians, quality control personnel, and maintenance workersProvide training on BSFL biology, processing techniques, and safety protocolsConduct performance evaluations and career development planning for team membersFoster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in sustainable productionManage workforce planning and recruitment for specialized biotechnology rolesSafety & Environmental Management :
Implement comprehensive safety protocols for biological and chemical hazardsEnsure proper use of personal protective equipment and safety training programsManage waste treatment systems and environmental impact minimizationCoordinate emergency response procedures and incident investigationMaintain occupational health standards and worker safety complianceBusiness Performance & Strategy
Financial Management :
Manage plant budget including operational expenses, capital investments, and cost optimizationMonitor key performance indicators including production costs, yield rates, and profitabilityImplement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product quality and safety standardsCoordinate with procurement teams for raw material sourcing and vendor managementPrepare financial reports and variance analysis for management reviewTechnology & Innovation :
Stay current with BSFL technology advancements and industry best practicesEvaluate and implement new processing technologies and automation systemsCollaborate with R&D teams for product development and process improvementsManage technology transfer from pilot scale to commercial productionDrive digital transformation initiatives including IoT monitoring and data analyticsCustomer & Stakeholder Relations :
Coordinate with sales teams to meet customer specifications and delivery schedulesManage customer audits and facility tours for aquaculture, poultry, and pet food clientsMaintain relationships with organic waste suppliers and feedstock providersCoordinate with logistics teams for product distribution and supply chain optimizationRepresent company at industry conferences and sustainability forumsRequired Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master's degree in Biotechnology, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related fieldMinimum 8-12 years of experience in manufacturing / processing plant managementPrevious experience in biotechnology, food processing, or agricultural industries preferredExperience with biological process control and fermentation / bioconversion technologiesKnowledge of insect farming, aquaculture feed, or animal nutrition industries advantageousTechnical Competencies
BSFL & Biotechnology Knowledge :
Deep understanding of insect biology, particularly Black Soldier Fly lifecycle and behaviorKnowledge of bioconversion processes, organic waste treatment, and sustainable productionExperience with biological process optimization and yield improvement techniquesUnderstanding of animal nutrition requirements for aquaculture, poultry, and pet food applicationsKnowledge of protein extraction, drying, and processing technologiesManufacturing & Process Management :
