A merchandiser is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing strategies to promote products and maximize sales in a retail or online environment. Key duties include managing inventory, stocking shelves, arranging product displays, setting prices, and analyzing sales data to ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time. This role requires a combination of analytical, creative, and communication skills, with a strong understanding of commercial awareness and market trends.
Key responsibilities
Product and Inventory Management : Ensure stores are stocked with the correct products, monitor inventory levels, and manage stock deliveries.
Visual Merchandising : Create and maintain attractive product displays, set up promotional signs, and ensure products are arranged in a way that attracts customers.
Pricing and Promotions : Determine product pricing and plan promotional activities to drive sales.
Sales and Performance Analysis : Track sales data and perform market analysis to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Supplier and Store Collaboration : Work with suppliers to negotiate prices and collaborate with store staff to ensure products are displayed correctly.
Reporting : Report any issues, shortages, or problems to management.
Required skills
Analytical and Numerical Skills : Ability to interpret sales and market data and use spreadsheet software.
Commercial Awareness : A strong understanding of the retail industry and market trends.
Communication and Presentation : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly.

Educational and experiential requirements
Education : A high school diploma is often the minimum requirement, but a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field is often preferred.
Experience : Previous experience in retail or merchandising is often necessary.
Additional requirements : Strong decision-making skills, flexibility to travel to store locations, and proficiency in merchandising software can also be required.
