Job Summary :
The IT Vessel Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all IT systems, infrastructure, and digital assets deployed on vessels across the fleet. This role ensures seamless IT operations onboard, including network management, system integration, cybersecurity compliance, and remote support coordination, in alignment with company policies, maritime regulations, and international standards (e.g., ISO 27001, IMO guidelines).
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee day-to-day IT operations and infrastructure across all vessels.
- Lead the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of vessel-based systems (e.g., datacenters, servers, switches, satellite comms, onboard workstations).
- Coordinate IT project rollouts for vessels including system upgrades, cybersecurity solutions, software installations, and hardware replacements.
- Ensure all vessel IT systems comply with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., IMO 2021 Cyber Risk Management, ISO 27001).
- Manage remote and onsite IT support for vessel users (Masters, Chief Engineers, ETOs).
- Monitor VSAT, FleetBroadband, and 4G communications equipment and ensure business continuity for onboard connectivity.
- Liaise with vendors and service providers for support, procurement, repairs, and upgrades.
- Collaborate with ship management, QHSE, and compliance teams to support audits, incident investigations, and IT-related inspections.
- Maintain up-to-date asset inventory and documentation of vessel IT systems.
- Drive standardization of IT configurations and compliance with internal SOPs across the fleet.
- Provide regular training and guidance to vessel crew on IT use and security best practices.
- Review, analyze, and report on IT performance metrics across vessels.
Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Electronics, or related field.Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in IT operations, preferably in the maritime industry or remote / offshore environments.Strong knowledge of network protocols, VSAT, VPN, Windows Server, Active Directory, and cybersecurity principles.Experience managing datacenters or server infrastructure on vessels or remote locations.Familiar with maritime-specific applications (e.g., Jibe, ShipNet, AMOS, ShipSure, NS5, etc.).Working knowledge of satellite communication systems and remote connectivity tools.Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.Willingness to travel for vessel visits, dry docks, and installations as needed.Preferred Certifications :
CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similarMicrosoft Certified : Azure Administrator / Modern Desktop AdministratorCisco CCNAISO 27001 Lead Implementer / Auditor (is a plus)Familiarity with ISM Code, IMO Cyber Guidelines, or TMSA compliance
