Job Summary :
The Assistant General Manager - Purchase will play a critical leadership role in managing and optimizing procurement activities to support the organization's operational and strategic goals. Reporting to the General Manager or Deputy General Manager of Purchase, the AGM Purchase will oversee the sourcing, negotiation, supplier management, and team leadership for diverse material categories, ensuring cost-effective procurement and timely delivery while maintaining quality standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead procurement operations for various material categories such as raw materials, spares, consumables, electricals, chemicals, fuel, packing materials, tools, and other related items.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business objectives and market conditions.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers, building and maintaining strong vendor relationships to ensure supply security and competitive pricing.
- Conduct negotiations to secure favorable terms and contracts, focusing on cost reduction and value addition.
- Monitor supplier performance and coordinate corrective actions where necessary.
- Manage and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering skill development and promoting a high-performance culture.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet procurement targets and deadlines.
- Monitor market trends, price fluctuations, and supply risks to develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Analyze procurement data and metrics to drive cost savings and improve procurement efficiency.
- Work closely with production, quality, logistics, and finance teams to align procurement with operational needs.
- Support new product launches and process improvements through effective sourcing and vendor engagement.
- Prepare procurement reports, forecasts, and presentations for senior management.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of procurement processes, contracts, and supplier evaluations.
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field; MBA or equivalent is preferred.8-12 years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in manufacturing, heavy industry, or energy sectors.Strong knowledge of procurement lifecycle, vendor management, contract negotiation, and category management.Experience handling procurement volumes with significant financial value.Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Proficient with ERP and procurement management systems.Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and prioritize competing demands effectively.(ref : iimjobs.com)
