Job Description : Director of Physical Education
1. Position Summary
The Director of Physical Education is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all physical education programs, sports activities, fitness initiatives, and athletic development in the institution. The role ensures effective implementation of sports curricula, talent identification, infrastructure management, and promotion of health and wellness among students and staff.
2. Key Roles & Responsibilities
A. Academic & Curriculum Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and update the Physical Education curriculum in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Conduct theoretical and practical classes for Physical Education courses.
- Evaluate student performance through assessments, fitness tests, and attendance.
- Promote inclusive participation and ensure safety standards during all activities.
B. Sports & Athletic Management
Plan, organize, and oversee intra- and inter-collegiate tournaments , sports meet, and competitions.Coach and train institution teams for various sports.Identify athletic talent and groom students for competitive events.Maintain discipline among student participants and ensure adherence to rules.C. Infrastructure, Equipment & Facility Management
Supervise the maintenance of all playgrounds, courts, gymnasiums, and fitness centers.Ensure proper stocking, storage, purchase, and maintenance of sports equipment.Coordinate with administration for upgrades or development of sports facilities.D. Health, Fitness & Wellness Promotion
Promote fitness awareness, wellness programs, and healthy lifestyle habits among students and staff.Organize workshops, camps, and awareness programs on yoga, nutrition, first aid, and mental wellness.Monitor injury prevention and ensure timely medical support during sporting events.E. Administrative & Coordination Duties
Prepare annual sports calendar, schedules, policies, and reports.Manage sports budgets, procurement plans, and documentation.Coordinate with university bodies, sports councils, and government agencies for tournaments and grants.Maintain records of student participation, achievements, and performance.F. Leadership & Supervision
Lead the Physical Education department and supervise physical instructors, coaches, trainers, and support staff.Organize staff development programs to improve coaching and training standards.Represent the institution in sports meetings, committees, and official gatherings.3. Required Qualifications & Experience
Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) or Ph.D. in Physical Education / Sports Science (preferred).Certification in coaching or specialized sports training is an added advantage.At least 5–10 years of teaching / coaching experience in Physical Education.Proven track record in organizing sports events and training students for competitions.4.
