Job Profile - Criminal Lawyer

Location : Mumbai (Bandra West)

Key Responsibilities

1. Client Consultation & Case Assessment

Meet clients to understand the details of the case.
Assess allegations, evidence, FIR / charge sheets, witness statements.
Advise clients on legal rights, case strengths / weaknesses, and possible outcomes.

2. Case Preparation & Legal Research

Draft bail applications, anticipatory bail, written arguments, and other pleadings.

Conduct detailed legal research on relevant Acts, case laws, precedents.

Prepare defense strategy and develop arguments based on facts and the law.

3. Court Representation

Appear before District Courts, Sessions Courts, High Courts, and Supreme Court.

Present arguments during bail hearings, trials, appeals, and revisions.

Examine and cross-examine witnesses.

Submit oral and written arguments effectively.

4. Investigation & Evidence Handling

Review police reports, forensic reports, medical records.

Identify inconsistencies or legal violations in the investigation.

Coordinate with private investigators, experts, or witnesses when required.

5. Drafting & Documentation

Draft complaints, petitions, replies, affidavits, appeals, revisions, writs.

Prepare case summaries, briefing notes, and legal opinions.

Ensure proper documentation and filing within statutory deadlines.

6. Negotiation & Plea Bargaining

Negotiate settlements, plea deals, and compounding of offenses when legally allowed.

Represent clients during mediation or pre-trial negotiations.

7. Client Communication

Keep clients updated on case progress, risks, and next steps.

Maintain confidentiality and build trust through ethical legal practice.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of CrPC, IPC, Evidence Act, PMLA, NDPS, IT Act , and other criminal laws.

Excellent oral advocacy and cross-examination skills.

Legal drafting and analytical thinking.

Investigation handling and case-building capability.

Time management and ability to work under pressure.

Ethical conduct and professional integrity.

Educational Requirements

LLB degree from a recognized university.

Enrollment with the State Bar Council .

Experience under a senior criminal lawyer or law firm (internship / pupillage preferred).
