University of Aberdeen Mumbai Campus Governance and Leadership Structure
The University of Aberdeen Mumbai Campus operates as University of Aberdeen Mumbai Campus Private Limited, a joint venture between the University of Aberdeen and its India-based partner. The Academic Provost will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading the senior academic management team at the Mumbai Campus, working closely with the Chief Business Officer (CBO) to ensure strategic alignment and preparations for the Mumbai Campus launch in August 2026.
All academic staff at the University of Aberdeen Mumbai Campus will report directly to the Academic Provost, who serves as the line manager for all academic posts. The Academic Provost provides academic leadership and ensures alignment with the University of Aberdeen's standards and strategic objectives .
Governance : The UOA Mumbai Campus will have a three-tier governance model : a Strategic Board for high-level oversight, a Management Committee for daily campus management, and three Working Groups—Academic, Operations, and Finance—to ensure academic quality, operational efficiency, and financial accountability.

Aberdeen Campus Academic Governance : At the University of Aberdeen, academic governance is structured around the University Court and the Senatus Academicus (Senate). The Court oversees strategic direction, finances, and legal responsibilities, while the Senate governs teaching, research, academic standards, and degree conferral. Supporting these core bodies, the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) ensures the quality and enhancement of teaching and learning through rigorous oversight. The Programme Management Committee (PMC) manages academic programme development and changes, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy and regulatory compliance.

This strategic initiative offers internationally aligned programmes in Computing, Data Science, Mathematics, Business, and Artificial Intelligence, while promoting a strong culture of research, innovation, and academic excellence.
As part of this expansion, we are seeking an experienced and visionary academic leader to head the Computing Science discipline at our Mumbai campus. The campus will support a new BSc in Computing Science, a BSc in Data Science and MSc programmes in both Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
This senior appointment at the Professor level will allow a focus on both teaching and research, with the successful candidate expected to offer academic leadership to staff in both these areas. The role involves oversight of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes aligned with Aberdeen's internationally recognised strengths in AI, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Generation, and Human- Centred Computing. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong research portfolio in one of these areas, with the expectation of collaborative working with staff on the University campus in Aberdeen. About The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Professor to serve as both a senior academic and Head of the Computing Science discipline at the University of Aberdeen's Mumbai campus. As academic line manager, the post-holder will lead the discipline and play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of Computing Science education and research. A focus is on delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, mentoring early-career staff, and driving curriculum development. The role also involves building industry engagement for the new degree programmes and contributing to the research strategy of the work carried out on the Mumbai campus. The Head of Computing Science is also a research-active role and the job will involve carrying out high-quality work in a relevant field. It is expected that the research will align with the strengths in the Aberdeen campus, in areas such as autonomous agents, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science, natural language generation and computational linguistics, and human- centred computing. Applicants working in other developing areas of research, such as
quantum computing and quantum information, would also be welcome to apply. The appointee will be able to teach across the curriculum and may contribute to related programmes in Data Science, Mathematics, Business Management and Information Systems, International Business, and Finance, including supporting international teaching commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Provide academic and strategic leadership for the Department of Computing Science, including line management and performance evaluation of academic staff.
Lead curriculum design and development, ensuring alignment with goals for student employability, recruitment, internationalisation , and satisfaction; work will be in collaboration with colleagues on both the Mumbai and Aberdeen campuses.
Support Campus-wide leadership by contributing to strategic planning and initiatives in teaching, research, and external engagement as part of the Campus Leadership Team.
Design, deliver, assess, and manage undergraduate and postgraduate programmes , ensuring academic rigour and relevance.
Teach across key Computing and Data Science programmes offered at the Mumbai campus, with responsibilities for module leadership and academic support.
Plan and adapt high-quality teaching materials, aligned with defined learning outcomes and responsive to diverse student needs.
Supervise and assess student projects and dissertations, maintaining academic standards and providing constructive feedback.
Address student learning needs by defining clear learning objectives and offering tailored academic guidance.
Promote pedagogical innovation, sharing best practices and advancing Computing Science education within the department.
To conduct cutting-edge research in field of Computing Science closely related to our core, or other emerging, research fields
Develop collaborative research links with academic staff in our home campus in Aberdeen.
To prepare and submit manuscripts for publications in leading international conferences and journals.
To prepare and submit grant applications for externally funded research support.
Develop engagement with external partners, including industry, NGOs, local and national government.
Take responsibility for the supervision and training of postgraduate research students
Candidate Background
Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field, with a minimum of 10–12 years of academic and / or industry experience, including significant contributions to both undergraduate and postgraduate education.
Proven ability to design, develop, and deliver high-quality course materials in Computing Science, demonstrating pedagogical effectiveness and curriculum alignment.
Track record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with the ability to engage, inspire, and support diverse student cohorts.
Experience in academic line management, including setting objectives , performance monitoring, and mentoring academic staff.
Demonstrated involvement in curriculum development, ensuring relevance, innovation, and alignment with industry and academic standards.
Demonstrated ability to develop academic strategy working at least at a Discipline level.
Active engagement with subject-specific pedagogic research or educational networks, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-based teaching practices.
Evidence of sustained high quality research outputs evidenced by conference and journal papers in internationally leading venues.
Evidence of having held competitively awarded research funding as Principle Investigator and a clear vision for a program of research for the next five years
Successful supervision of PhD candidates to completion.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and contribute effectively to departmental and institutional goals.
