Role & responsibilities
To carry out chemical analysis of raw materials, alloys, and finished products in the ferro alloys / SMS plant, ensuring quality standards are met and supporting production with timely and accurate test reports.
Responsibilities
Chemist - Ferro Alloys Unit
- Conduct chemical analysis of raw materials (manganese ore, coke, dolomite, quartz, etc.) and ferro alloys (FeMn, SiMn, FeSi, etc.).
- Perform
- wet chemistry, gravimetric, and instrumental analysis
- (AAS, ICP, Spectrometer, Carbon-Sulphur analyzer, UV spectrophotometer, etc.).
- Ensure proper sampling methods for raw materials, in-process samples, and final products.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments, ensuring accuracy of results.
- Monitor
- slag, metal recovery, and quality parameters
- as per production requirements.
- Prepare and maintain
- daily test reports
- and communicate results to production & management.
- Ensure compliance with
- quality standards (ISO, BIS, NABL if applicable)
- and maintain lab documentation.
- Support in
- process optimization, yield improvement, and cost reduction
- by providing timely data.
- Maintain stock of lab chemicals, glassware, and consumables.
- Follow all
- safety, health, and environment (SHE)
- protocols in laboratory operations.
Chemist - SMS Unit
Chemical Analysis & Testing
Conduct chemical analysis of raw materials (scrap, ferro alloys, fluxes) and finished steel samples.Carry out spectrometer, wet analysis, and carbon-sulphur testing.Ensure heat-wise testing during steel making and provide real-time results to production.1.
Quality AssuranceMonitor and control chemical composition of molten steel in ladle / furnace.Ensure compliance with IS / ISO specifications and customer requirements.Support metallurgical quality checks (deoxidation, desulphurization, alloying additions).1.
Process SupportCoordinate with SMS operations team during heats for timely analysis and corrections.Recommend alloy / flux additions to achieve desired grade.Maintain close coordination with LRF (Ladle Refining Furnace) and CCM (Continuous Casting Machine) teams.1.
Laboratory ManagementOperate and calibrate spectrometers, carbon-sulphur analyzers, and other lab instruments.Maintain records of test results (heat-wise log sheets, lab reports, calibration records).Implement and maintain lab safety standards.1.
Documentation & ReportingPrepare and maintain chemical analysis reports for production & quality departments.Support ISO / NABL audits with proper documentation.Assist in R / &D for new steel grades.Preferred candidate profile
Education : B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry (Inorganic / Analytical preferred).
Experience : 39 years of experience in chemical analysis, preferably in ferro alloys / SMS / steel / metal industry.
Strong knowledge of chemical testing methods (wet & instrumental).Hands-on experience with lab instruments (Spectrometer, CS analyzer, ICP, AAS).Data recording, analysis, and reporting skills.Attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical mindset.Team player with ability to coordinate with production & quality teams.Knowledge ofISO / NABL documentationis desirable.
