Overview
Our client, a leading global commodity trading house, is expanding its offshore technology capability in India to support its growing global footprint. The Risk Developer will be part of the Trading Technology team responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining risk analytics systems across the Oil, Gas, and Power trading desks.
This role will involve close collaboration with quantitative developers, risk analysts, and data engineering teams in London, Houston, and Singapore . The candidate will contribute to the development of real-time and end-of-day risk platforms, focusing on Value-at-Risk (VaR) , sensitivities, and exposure reporting systems hosted in AWS .
Key Responsibilities
1. Risk System Development and Maintenance
- Design, develop, and maintain core risk engines and calculation services in Python , deployed on AWS (ECS, Lambda, S3, and Step Functions).
- Implement efficient data processing and aggregation pipelines for VaR, sensitivities, and stress test reporting.
- Integrate with market data, pricing models, and trade valuation systems.
- Optimize performance of batch and real-time risk calculations across distributed compute environments.
2. Data and Platform Engineering
Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation workflows using AWS native services and Python frameworks (e.g., Pandas, PySpark, Boto3).Work closely with Data Engineering to ensure quality and reliability of market and position data consumed by risk engines.Develop APIs and microservices to expose risk metrics to front-office and reporting systems.3. Testing, Automation, and CI / CD
Write automated unit, integration, and regression tests for risk models and data pipelines.Use CI / CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) for continuous deployment to AWS environments.Participate in release cycles, version control best practices, and code reviews to maintain production-grade quality.4. Collaboration and Support
Collaborate with the Risk Quant and Risk Operations teams to interpret functional requirements into scalable technical solutions.Provide L3 support for critical production issues impacting risk reporting or VaR calculations.Contribute to documentation, design reviews, and post-implementation retrospectives.Key Skills and Experience
Technical Skills
Expert-level Python programming skills, with strong knowledge of object-oriented design and performance optimization.Deep understanding of VaR , P&L attribution , and market risk concepts (Greeks, stress, sensitivities).Proven experience developing systems within AWS environments , leveraging services such as Lambda, ECS, S3, Glue, and CloudWatch.Strong data engineering and analytics experience (SQL, Pandas, PySpark, or similar).Familiarity with risk system architectures in trading environments (preferably commodities or derivatives).Knowledge of messaging and data streaming frameworks (Kafka, AWS SNS / SQS) desirable.Experience with version control and CI / CD (Git, Jenkins, Terraform).Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, particularly under time-sensitive trading conditions.Effective communicator able to interact with risk managers, quants, and technology leads across global locations.Ownership mindset with a passion for high-quality engineering and continuous improvement.Ability to manage workload autonomously and handle complex, fast-paced development cycles.Experience
5–10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in risk or trading system development.Prior experience in commodity trading, investment banking, or hedge fund environments preferred.Exposure to global trading hours and distributed team collaboration advantageous.Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.Success Indicators
