Job summary
The Rehosting and Migration Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and managing the "lift-and-shift" migration of on-premises workloads, applications, and databases to the cloud. This role requires a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (IaaS), automation tools, and migration best practices to ensure minimal disruption during the transition. The ideal candidate is a technical expert with a bias for action who can collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a successful and timely migration.
Responsibilities
Assessment : Evaluate existing on-premises infrastructure, applications, and databases to determine readiness for cloud migration.Strategy and Planning : Develop and document detailed migration plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and cutover strategies, focusing on a rehosting (lift-and-shift) approach.Execution : Implement and manage the end-to-end migration process, moving workloads to the target cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.Automation : Utilize native cloud migration tools (e.g., AWS Application Migration Service, Azure Migrate) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform to automate migration processes.System Setup : Replicate the source environment by provisioning cloud infrastructure (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networking) to ensure compatibility.Troubleshooting : Address and resolve technical challenges that arise during migration, including performance issues, network latency, and application dependencies.Security and Compliance : Implement and enforce cloud security best practices, ensuring all migrated workloads comply with relevant policies and regulatory requirements.Optimization : Monitor migrated workloads post-cutover to identify and implement performance and cost optimization opportunities, such as right-sizing compute instances.Documentation : Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering the migration architecture, processes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).Collaboration : Work closely with application teams, security, and operations to ensure seamless integration and a smooth transition.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.[3–12] years of experience in IT, with at least [2] years of hands-on experience specifically with cloud migration projects.Proven experience executing large-scale "lift-and-shift" migrations from on-premises or virtualized environments (VMware) to the cloud.In-depth knowledge of at least one major public cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).Strong practical skills in system administration for both Windows and Linux environments.Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts, including VPC / VNet, subnets, DNS, and firewalls.Experience with various migration tools (e.g., AWS Application Migration Service, Azure Migrate, CloudEndure, Carbonite Migrate) is preferred.Desirable skills
Familiarity with Agile methodologies.Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified : Azure Administrator, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.Experience in a professional services or consulting environment.Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
