Consultant to Senior Consultant grade to support the delivery of environmental permit applications and associated studies and compliance activities for the regulated industry sector in the UK. The permitting team works across a wide range of industrial sectors such as : energy (including nuclear, oil and gas, hydrogen), waste, food and drink, chemicals and manufacturing. Within these sectors we work on environmental permits (to operate) and environmental compliance projects relating to :
- Obtaining environmental permits for industrial facilities
- Variations (changes), transfers and surrenders of existing permits
- Permit applications for water discharge activities, flood risk activity permits and trade effluent consents
The projects range from smaller single localised sites and clients to nationally significant infrastructure projects, and clients with over 50 operating sites.
The role involves supporting our clients with complete environmental permit applications; with the development of standalone studies and technical reports; and with follow-on support relating to compliance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions. The applicant is expected to have experience in some of the following typical areas of support :
Review of site sensitivities and environmental constraints (identifying sensitive receptors)Completing Environmental Risk Assessments (e.g. considering emissions to air, water and land and groundwater, or sewer)Quantitative screening assessments of point source emissions to air and / or water to determine further detailed modelling requirements, and liaising with specialist acoustics and air quality colleaguesCompiling, reviewing and summarising environmental monitoring reports and pollution inventoriesDrafting chapters on energy, raw materials and water use, and waste management - compilation of data , review of operational efficiencies / sector best practices and identification of opportunities for improvementApplication and review of BAT (Best Available Techniques) for different sectorsDeveloping, reviewing or updating Accident Management Plans and Contingency PlansPreparing Fire Prevention Plans, Odour Management Plans and Noise Management PlansEnvironmental Management Systems development and complianceDeveloping Site Condition Reports (reviewing soil and groundwater monitoring data, sources-pathways-receptors, relevant hazardous substances and primary / secondary / tertiary containment measures)Undertaking BAT options appraisals for abatement of emissions to air and waterAuditing clients activities against their permit and other environmental regulatory requirementsIdentifying and interpreting regulatory requirements (from EU Directives, UK or other legislation and Regulator guidance)Leading regulator liaison and consultation with other stakeholders.Skills Required
