Marine Safety Officer Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Safety Officer to join our team. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as a deep understanding of maritime safety regulations and best practices.
- Key Responsibilities :
- Ensure compliance with international rules and regulations, including those related to safety, security, and environmental protection;
- Develop and implement a performance improvement plan to continuously enhance safety and quality standards;
- Collaborate with shore departments and vessels to maintain good communication and ensure proper manning, maintenance, and equipment of assigned vessels;
- Manage and follow up on ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO, and flag audits;
- Conduct QSSE audits or inquiries onboard assigned vessels;
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions, investigate accidents, and train shore department and ship staff;
- Participate in regulation monitoring and serve as the contact point for flag administrations and classification societies;
- Support the Emergency Response Team when required and be available to travel worldwide.
- Additional Responsibilities :
- Act as Deputy DPA-CSO when required, following DPA / CSO duties during their absence;
- Monitor and follow ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO, and flag audits & certifications for all vessels;
- Remain the contact point with Flag administration or RO in case of casualty;
- Organize Company internal audit if required.
Requirements
Officer licenses preferred;Training in ISM and ISO Internal auditor, CSO, accident investigation;Fluent in English;QHSSE management knowledge;Previous officer experience or shipping industry experience.Personal Attributes
