Key Purpose of the Job :
Head of environment shall be responsible for obtaining statuory clearances & Environmental Compliance pertaining to SPCB / CPCB / MoEF & CC, safe handling & Disposal of hazardous waste, biomedical waste and Sustainability Reporting Data Management.
Educational Qualification / Experience required :
Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering or Graduation in Chemical engineering with minimum 15 + years experience in Red Category Industries and should have minimum 7+ years experience in Environment Function.
Key Responsibilities :
"1. Statutory compliance - Ensure compliance to regulatory / legislative requirements of SPCB / CPCB / MoEFCC directives and corporate requirements.
2. Hazardous waste and Non hazardous waste collection, segregation and proper disposal as per regulator requirements.
3. Conduct regulatory monitoring & continuously assess environmental performance associated with Plant Operations.
4. IMS Annual Surveillance Audit and Certifications.
5. Carrying out Environmental Audit, Water Audit, Compliance Audit, etc., as per statutory requirements.
6. Implement & ensure green belt development at plant.
7. Develop Records / Procedures to ensure 100% compliance and responsible for sending monthly, annual reports to top management.
8. Implement / maintain Environment policy & procedures, includes formulation and implementing corporate Environment procedure & monitoring efficacy of Environment Monitoring system.
9. Sustainability Data Management and Reporting"
Indicative Tasks Competencies (all competencies required to carry out this key responsibility and indicative tasks)
1. Statutory compliance - Ensure compliance to regulatory / legislative requirements & directives and corporate requirements.
Compliance with Environment statutory requirements and Legal updates - Thorough knowledge of various Acts / Rules / Notifications like Water Act, Air Act, Noise Pollution Rules, Environmental Protection Act (EPA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) etc.
Liaisen with SPCB / CPCB / MOEF and other authorities for obtaining necessary approval / Certifications.
Develop Records / procedures to ensure 100% compliance.
Submission of statutories records / forms to MOEF / CPCB / TNPCB as per requirements.
Co-ordination with MoEF, CPCB and SPCB for ensuring compliance with respect to various Acts / Rules.
Interaction with various internal stakeholders & achieve 100% Environmental compliance
2. Hazardous waste and Non hazardous waste collection, segregation and propor disposal as per regulator requirements.
Prepare, implement waste matrix and measure the effectiveness. - Knowledge of Hazardous Waste (Management,Handling & Transboundary Movement) Rules, Biomedical Waste (Management & Handling) Rules.
Regular monitoring of hazardous and non hazardous waste generation and take appropriate action for disposal with in stipulated time bound.
Prepare and implement hazardous waste collection, labeling and transport procedures and monitor continuous effectivenss.
Ensure zero percentage hazardous waste spillage in to ground and ensure 100 % PPE usage during handling.
Updation & Maintenance of records and submission of returns to concern statutory authorities with in stipulated time.
3. Conduct regulatory monitoring & continuously assess environmental performance associated with Plant Operations.
Conduct VCM specific monitoring like Leak Detection and Repair Program (LDAR) as per ECVCM charter through approved agencies and submit report to MoEF / CPCB / TNPCB. - Knowledge of General standards for discharges of effluents and sewage. Ambient Air Quality, Noise, Emission of smoke, Vapour, VOC & S-VOC, General standards for discharge of Environmental Pollutants etc.
Conduct period Environment monitoring includes Ambient Air Quality, Stack, Water quality and Noise level monitoring every month and report submitted to statutory authorities.
Submission of Half Yearly compliance Report to MoEF & CC and SPCB as per the compliance condition requirements.
Conduct performance evaluation study in Air Pollution Control Equipment and Zero Liquid Discharges System and continuously evaluate the system efficiency.
4. IMS Annual Surveillance Audit and Certifications.
Liaise with certifying bodies / agencies for annual surveillance audits on IMS. - Knowledge of Environment Management System ISO 14001 : 2004 standards and Environment & Pollution laws.
With adequate support from site management team, implement the programes that are identified in the audit within time frame.
Develop effective control mechanisms so that the program stay for ever.
5. Carrying out Environmental Audit as per statutory requirements.
Conduct every year a comprehensive environmental audit and submit report to MoEF / CPCB / TNPCB. - OISD Guildlines for conducting Environmental Audit for Petrochemical Sector.
Environment Audit focus on the performance of the pollution control measures, in-plant control measures and mass balance.
6. Implement & ensure green belt development .
Develop and maintain green belt / garden. - Fair knowledge on horticulture.
Ensure green belt development as per MoEF / CPCB / TNPCB guidelines and standards.
7. Develop Records / Procedures to ensure 100% compliance and responsible for sending monthly, annual reports to top management.
Prepare and update statutory records like Environmental Statement, Hazardous waste returns etc as per Acts / Rules. - Knowledge on entire operations of the plant.
Responsible for prepare monthly and annual reports.
8. Implement / maintain Environment policy & procedures.
Prepare, Implement and maintain EMS procedures. - Thorough Knowledge on Environment Management System ISO 14001 : 2004 standards and compliance in a Hazardous Plant.
Do daily walk around audit of the plant and ensure compliance to EMS policies / procedures.
Periodic review of EMS document and discuss with respective heads and arrive at mutually agreed corrective actions to restore 100% compliance.
Based on the observation and depending on criticality of the practices noticed, develop a compliance plan along with respective HODs.
9.Sustainability Data Management and Reporting.
Effective Data Management on Sustainability - Thorough Knowledge on ESG Data Management and Sustainability Reporting as per GRI Standards.
Co-ordination with the External and Internal Auditors for Data Management and Reporting
Implementation of various Sustainability Initiative Programs
