The Medical Superintendent (MS) provides overall leadership and supervision of medical and clinical services in the hospital. The role ensures smooth functioning of departments, maintains quality of patient care, enforces medical ethics, and ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Hospital Administration & Operations
Oversee day-to-day functioning of all medical departments (OPD, IPD, OT, ICU, Emergency, etc.).
Ensure efficient utilization of hospital resources (beds, equipment, manpower).
Supervise patient flow, admission / discharge processes, and emergency preparedness.
Clinical Governance & Quality
Ensure adherence to NABH / JCI standards, statutory rules, and healthcare regulations.
Implement and monitor quality assurance programs, infection control, and patient safety initiatives.
Conduct regular clinical audits and mortality / morbidity meetings.
Medical Staff Management
Supervise and guide doctors, residents, and nursing staff in delivering patient care.
Oversee duty rosters, recruitment, training, and appraisal of medical staff.
Promote continuing medical education (CME) and professional development.
Patient Care & Grievance Handling
Ensure delivery of ethical, patient-centric care across all specialties.
Address escalated patient complaints and grievances promptly.
Monitor patient satisfaction and initiate service improvements.
Policy & Compliance
Enforce hospital rules, medical ethics, and disciplinary codes.
Liaise with government health authorities and statutory bodies.
Ensure medico-legal cases (MLC) are handled as per legal requirements.
Strategic & Financial Oversight
Support management in planning new clinical services and specialties.
Monitor budgets, cost control, and optimal utilization of facilities.
Contribute to business development, hospital growth, and outreach activities.
Qualifications & Experience :
MBBS with postgraduate qualification (MD / MS / MHA or equivalent).
3–5 years of clinical and administrative experience in a reputed hospital.
In-depth knowledge of hospital administration, accreditation standards, and medical laws.
