Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced ESIA, DPR & Climate Resilience Consultant with strong multidisciplinary expertise across environmental science, sustainability, and civil engineering–based development projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in preparing Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), Climate Resilience and Adaptation Reports , and integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in line with international funding agency guidelines (KfW, TNUIFSL, ADB, IFC, World Bank, etc.).
This is an on-site role in Chennai requiring close coordination with technical teams, field staff, project stakeholders, and government departments.
Key Responsibilities
1. ESIA & Environmental Studies
- Lead and prepare full-scale Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) including baseline studies, scoping, public consultations, stakeholder engagement, impact analysis, mitigation planning, and ESMP / EMP documentation.
- Conduct site assessments, environmental screening, and risk evaluations as per MoEFCC, IFC, KfW, and World Bank standards.
- Prepare Environmental Monitoring Plans (EMoP) , Climate Risk Assessments (CRA), cumulative impact assessments, hydrological / biophysical studies, and social safeguard analyses.
2. DPR Preparation & Civil Engineering Components
Prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for lake restoration, waterbody rejuvenation, stormwater drains, flood mitigation works, eco-restoration, watershed development, and other urban environmental projects.Work alongside civil, structural, GIS, and hydrology teams to ensure engineering designs are environmentally compliant and aligned with site conditions.Review and recommend civil engineering components such as :Bund strengtheningRevetment protectionStormwater drainsToe walls, kerb walls, gabion wallsEmbankment improvementWalkways and public infrastructureIntegrate engineering and environmental components into unified DPR chapters with technical clarity.3. Climate Resilience & Adaptation Planning
Prepare Climate Resilience Reports , vulnerability assessments, hazard mapping, and adaptation frameworks using climate data, GIS inputs, and risk modeling outputs.Suggest climate-proofing strategies tailored to funding guidelines (KfW, TNUIFSL, ADB).Develop low-carbon, resilient infrastructure plans and long-term monitoring protocols.4. Nature-Based Solutions (NBS)
Suggest and design NBS interventions such as :Wetland revivalBio-engineered slopesPermeable pavementsGeotextile lining + turfFloating wetlandsRiparian buffer zonesUrban biodiversity enhancementsEnsure all proposals align with international funding agency standards and climate-resilient urban infrastructure frameworks.5. Technical Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
Draft and finalize technical reports, ESIA chapters, DPR volumes, EMPs, CRAs, and monitoring frameworks.Present findings to funding agencies, municipal corporations, government bodies, and community groups.Conduct field visits, data collection, socio-environmental surveys, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams.Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Climate Science , or related field.Minimum 3–8 years of experience in ESIA, DPR preparation, and climate resilience work (flexible based on seniority).Hands-on experience with civil engineering components of environmental projects.Familiarity with Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and international donor-driven environmental frameworks.Strong technical writing skills and experience preparing multi-volume environmental reports.Ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams.Additional Preferred Skills
Knowledge of hydrology, watershed management, or GIS is an added advantage.Experience working with TNUIFSL, KfW, ADB, World Bank, or IFC funded projects.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.Work Location
