Quality Engineer – Supplier & Production

Location : Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Department : Quality Assurance / Quality Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to oversee supplier quality management , incoming material / part inspection , and internal production quality assurance . This role is critical in ensuring that supplied components, in-process parts, and finished products meet the company’s quality standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, Evaluate, qualify, and monitor suppliers based on their process capability, quality performance, and adherence to ISO 9001standard.
  • Develop and maintain Standard operating procedures, inspection standards, and sampling plans for raw materials and supplier components.
  • Conduct incoming inspections (mechanical, dimensional, and visual) using metrology instruments to ensure conformity to drawings and specifications.
  • Review and approve supplier PPAP , FAI , and process validation documentation before release to production.
  • Perform supplier process audits and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented effectively.
  • Manage supplier NCRs, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and verify closure of issues through follow-up inspections.
  • Work closely with suppliers in plastic molding, die casting, and machining to improve process consistency and reduce rejection rates.
  • Establish and execute in-process inspection and final inspection plans based on risk levels and product requirements.
  • Conduct in-process quality inspections for assemblies, sub-assemblies, and finished products to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Develop and update control plans , inspection checklists , and sampling criteria for production lines.
  • Monitor process performance using SPC, Cp, and Cpk to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Lead investigations into internal non-conformances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure inspection and measurement equipment are calibrated, maintained, and used as per standards.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams on DFMEA / PFMEA, process validation, and quality risk mitigation.

Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes

  • Strong understanding of Plastic Injection Molding processes — mold design basics, shrinkage, flow defects, flash, sink marks, etc.
  • Knowledge of Metal Casting (such as die casting, sand casting, and gravity casting) including common casting defects, dimensional variation, and finishing operations.
  • Familiarity with Machining operations (turning, milling, drilling, tapping, grinding) and associated tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Ability to identify process-induced defects and suggest corrective actions based on root cause analysis.
  • Experience in developing inspection criteria for molded, cast, and machined parts.
  • Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze recurring supplier and internal quality issues and drive preventive measures.
  • Train production and supplier teams on inspection techniques, defect prevention, and quality standards.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical , Production , or Industrial Engineering .
  • 1–3 years of experience in quality engineering within manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Hands-on experience with inspection tools (Vernier, Micrometer, CMM, Profile Projector, Height Gauge, Multimeter, etc.).
  • Familiarity with 8D, 5 Why, FMEA, MSA, SPC , and control plan methodologies.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T , and measurement techniques.
