Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

The Azure PostgreSQL databases team is hiring Principal Software engineering Manager to be part of PostgreSQL Engine team. We are looking for a hands-on Engineering manager with experience in database internals, building distributed database systems who is very hands-on and passionate about PostgreSQL.

Our team consists of opensource PostgreSQL committers and contributors. You will be working with a geographically distributed and diverse team. You will get a chance to work on cutting edge database features across the PostgreSQL eco-system spanning from low level I / O, Storage subsystem to user facing query improvements. You will get to work closely with PostgreSQL community consisting of developers and users from many parts of the world and organizations.

Qualifications

Required / Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree OR Master's Degree OR Equivalent experience in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
15+ yrs total experience and 6+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work.
Experience in leading team.
Experience in Open Source PostgreSQL Engine development.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and / or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings : Microsoft Cloud Background Check :

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire / transfer and every two years thereafter.

In this role you will mentor engineers, provide architectural insights, support your team to design and develop enhancements and review code and design in opensource PostgreSQL.
