Role Overview
The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for installing, configuring, securing, and maintaining Linux-based systems and servers across on-premises and cloud environments. The role ensures optimal system performance, availability, and reliability while driving automation, monitoring, and compliance initiatives. The administrator will collaborate closely with NOC, Cloud, and Security teams to deliver robust infrastructure solutions and meet SLA commitments.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Administration
Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE).
Manage services such as Apache, Nginx, Samba, SSH, NFS, and FTP.
Handle OS-level patching, kernel upgrades, and configuration management.
Manage user accounts, permissions, sudo policies, and directory structures.
Perform system performance tuning and capacity planning.
2. Virtualization & Cloud
Manage virtualized environments using VMware, KVM, or OpenStack.
Support Linux workloads hosted on AWS, Azure, or private cloud platforms.
Participate in migration and optimization of workloads between on-prem and cloud.
Configure storage (LVM, iSCSI, NFS, SAN) and ensure redundancy.
3. Backup, Security & Compliance
Configure and monitor backup jobs using tools such as Veeam, Commvault, or rsync-based solutions.
Ensure OS hardening and security baseline implementation as per compliance standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2, etc.).
Implement and maintain firewall, SELinux, and audit policies.
Conduct regular vulnerability scans and patch remediation.
4. Automation & Monitoring
Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Ansible to streamline operations.
Maintain configuration management using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Implement and maintain system monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana).
Create dashboards and performance reports to track server health.
5. Incident, Change & Problem Management
Respond to and troubleshoot incidents, perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and resolve escalations.
Execute approved change requests and ensure adherence to ITIL processes.
Document system configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
6. Collaboration & Support
Collaborate with Cloud, Network, Security, and Application teams for cross-functional dependencies.
Provide L2 / L3 support for complex Linux-related issues.
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations as per operational requirements.
Mentor junior administrators and foster continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) / Engineer (RHCE) –
Preferred.
Certifications in Ansible, AWS, or Azure are an added advantage.
