Job Purpose
To support the preparation of accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQs), assist in tendering processes, and participate in planning, coordination, and monitoring of engineering projects to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. BOQ Preparation & Estimation
- Study project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to prepare detailed BOQs.
- Perform quantity takeoff manually or using software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PlanSwift, CostX).
- Ensure all quantities comply with standard measurement methods.
- Prepare cost estimates, rate analyses, and material schedules.
- Coordinate with design teams to resolve discrepancies related to scope and quantities.
2. Tendering & Procurement Support
Review tender documents (RFP, ITB, drawings, specifications, BOQs).Prepare tender queries, clarifications, and attend pre-bid meetings.Develop technical and commercial proposals in coordination with relevant departments.Compare supplier / subcontractor quotations and prepare bid summaries.Evaluate construction methodologies and prepare method statements when required.Assist in value engineering exercises to optimize cost and materials.3. Project Planning & Documentation
Assist the planning team in preparing project schedules (Primavera P6 / MS Project).Coordinate preparation of project submittals (shop drawings, material submittals, ITPs).Maintain project documentation including RFI logs, variation records, and progress reports.Support preparation of baseline schedules, procurement plans, and cash-flow forecasts.4. Project Execution & Monitoring
Monitor site works to verify quantities for progress billing and variations.Coordinate with site engineers for tracking work progress and resource usage.Review contractor invoices and certify measured works.Assist in managing quality, safety, and compliance requirements.Report project status, risks, and issues to project managers.5. Coordination & Communication
Liaise with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal engineering teams.Handle technical discussions and resolve engineering issues with stakeholders.Support project meetings, prepare minutes, and follow up on action items.Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.2–7+ years of experience in BOQ preparation, tendering, estimating, or project management (adjust as per requirement).Experience in construction projects (buildings, infrastructure, roads, or utilities).Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.Proficiency in AutoCAD; knowledge of BIM tools is an advantage.Experience in quantity take off and cost estimation tools.Understanding of FIDIC or relevant contract standards (preferred).Knowledge of project planning tools (Primavera P6 or MS Project).Soft Skills
