About the Role
The Credit Manager – Commercial Banking plays a pivotal role in driving risk-calibrated, profitable growth by managing end-to-end credit appraisal, decision-making, and portfolio monitoring. This role ensures portfolio quality through early warning systems, covenant tracking, and stress testing, while also engaging with clients throughout their lifecycle. The Credit Manager partners with Relationship Managers to structure credit solutions, maintain compliance, and embed market intelligence into underwriting practices.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Credit Appraisal & Approval
Conduct in-depth analysis of financials, credit bureau reports (commercial & consumer), banking history, and QCA modules.
Evaluate credit proposals and approve / recommend within delegated authority.
Ensure adherence to credit policies, regulatory norms, and documentation standards.
Portfolio Quality & Risk Management
Monitor portfolio performance including NPAs, overdue / SMA accounts, and covenant compliance.
Develop and refine Early Warning Signal (EWS) frameworks and drive timely corrective actions.
Conduct stress tests and scenario analyses to assess portfolio resilience.
Customer Visits & Engagement
Perform lifecycle-based field visits (prospecting, onboarding, post-disbursal, renewals) to validate creditworthiness and track business performance.
Collaborate with Relationship Managers to structure solutions and proactively manage risks.
Reporting & Compliance
Provide periodic updates on portfolio health, delinquency trends, and sectoral views.
Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal audit requirements.
Governance & Process Optimization
Recommend policy and process improvements based on market trends and internal insights.
Implement system / process enhancements to streamline underwriting and monitoring.
Market Intelligence & External Feedback
Gather market feedback from peer banks, rating agencies, and industry sources.
Translate insights into updates for underwriting standards and sector notes.
Maintain benchmarks of market practices and track adoption of relevant changes.
Secondary Responsibilities
Coach RMs / ARMs on financial analysis, CAM quality, and covenant monitoring.
Support credit model validation and rating calibration exercises.
Participate in due diligence, vendor audits, legal reviews, and collateral governance.
Contribute to credit knowledge assets such as templates, playbooks, and training sessions.
What We Are Looking For
Education
Graduate Degree : B.Tech, B.Com, BA, or B.Sc from accredited universities (Premier / Tier I preferred; Tier II / III considered with relevant experience).
Postgraduate Degree : MBA / PGDM or CA / ICWA (treated as PG-equivalent for this role); full-time programs only.
Experience
6–12 years of relevant experience in private or public sector banking.
Exposure to Mid Corporate or Commercial Banking segments.
