Terre des Hommes Germany is a globally recognized humanitarian organization committed to protecting children’s rights and ensuring sustainable development across regions. The Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA), is a strategic hub dedicated to the implementation of Terre des Hommes’ regional strategies. With a special focus on India—and close collaboration with partners in Nepal—the office works to strengthen program delivery, foster child participation, and innovate approaches in program development, fundraising, and policy implementation. 3. JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES :
Reporting to the Executive Board in Germany, the Regional Coordinator for South Asia (RCSA) will lead the regional strategy and program consolidation at ROSA . The RCSA will work in close partnership with the Deputy Regional Coordinator and other key stakeholders to design, manage, and evaluate dynamic programs. The role requires exceptional leadership in strategic visioning, program management, risk assessment, team development, and stakeholder engagement- all aimed at promoting child rights, sustainable programming, and innovative fundraising across the region.
Key Roles and Responsibilities :
A) Strategic Vision and Leadership
1) Spearhead the development and implementation of Terre des Hommes' regional strategy for South Asia while aligning with global strategic goals;
2) Collaborate with the Deputy Regional Coordinator to contextualize initiatives with a special focus on India and Nepal;
3) Foster a participatory approach by engaging partner organizations, beneficiaries, and child and youth representatives in program design and implementation.
B) Program Development and Management
1) Lead the consolidation and expansion of Terre des Hommes’ program in the region by identifying strategic partnerships and securing program-based funding;
2) Oversee end-to-end program management—including the creation of concept notes, factsheets, proposals, and reports—ensuring adherence to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) principles;
3) Champion sustainable practices and innovative approaches in program development.
C) Assessment and Evaluation
1) Direct the annual assessment of the regional strategy by coordinating comprehensive data collection and indicator measurement;
2) Implement a robust risk management system to safeguard the organization, its staff, and stakeholders;
3) Promote an open culture of feedback, transparent evaluation, and continuous improvement.
D) Human Resources and Team Collaboration
1) Manage and nurture the regional team, ensuring effective leadership, capacity building, and professional growth;
2) Organize regular staff and management meetings, including annual planning sessions, evaluations, and capacity-building activities;
3) Offer consultative support as a core team member, collaborating with Program Leads and ensuring an inclusive, supportive work environment.
E) Office and Financial Management
1) Ensure the efficient operation of the Pune-based Office, overseeing administrative tasks as well as financial and technical management of funds;
2) Guarantee compliance with local government regulations in India (and in collaboration with Nepal-based bodies as applicable) and maintain rigorous financial reporting for third-party donors.
F) Communication and Fundraising
1) Facilitate seamless information flow between the Region and the Head Office.
2) Represent Terre des Hommes at national and regional events, promoting the organization’s policies, work, and strategy;
3) Develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies and strengthen strategic partnerships with Terre des Hommes International Federation member organizations.
G) Policy Implementation and Monitoring
Implement and monitor the enforcement of Terre des Hommes’ policies, procedures, and standards, including safeguarding, anti-corruption, and gender justice measures.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES :
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in sociology, development studies, social sciences, humanities, journalism, management, or a related field. A relevant graduate degree will also be considered.
Experience
1) 10- 15 years of experience in development programmes with a minimum of five years in a leadership role within an international NGO, with substantial experience operating in India and the broader South Asia region;
2) Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, and managing multi-stakeholder projects in the humanitarian or child rights sectors;
3) Experience in the development and implementation of strategies and ability to contextualize global strategic goals with a special focus on India.
Skills and Competencies
1) Strong strategic vision with the ability to contextualize global goals to local realities;
2) Advanced skills in managing the full project cycle, from conception to evaluation, including the development of concept notes, proposals, and reports;
2) Deep understanding of child rights principles and international instruments, with a focus on South Asia;
3) Expertise in child rights programming, advocacy, and network management;
4) Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven record of team building and mentoring in multicultural settings;
5) Excellent communication and networking skills to engage with government bodies, NGOs, donors, and community stakeholders;
6) Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to operate under pressure while applying the “do no harm” principle;
7) Advanced training in child safeguarding, with gender sensitivity and respect for cultural diversity.
5. COMPENSATION OFFERED :
The gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive and ranges from INR 45 to 55 lacs per annum. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
6. CONTRACT DURATION :
Terre des Hommes Germany will execute a full-time, long-term consultancy contract with the successful candidate. The contract will be for an initial term of three years and renewable based on performance.
7. LOCATION : Pune
While the position is based in Pune, applications from candidates based in Delhi or Kolkata where the organization has work spaces, shall also be considered. The post-holder will be expected to travel at least monthly to Pune, in such cases, to line manage direct reports based in the ROSA .
