Position Overview
The General Manager – Projects (Civil) will lead and oversee all civil engineering and construction projects across the campus. This role requires a seasoned leader with strong technical expertise, exceptional project management capabilities, and a proven track record of delivering large-scale institutional or commercial projects within timelines, budget, and quality standards. The incumbent will be responsible for end-to-end project lifecycle management—including planning, design coordination, vendor management, execution, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare project budgets and ensure strict adherence throughout execution.
- Review contractor bills, material reconciliation, and cost variance reports.
- Implement effective cost-control mechanisms and ensure financial discipline.
2. Project Planning & Execution
Lead complete project lifecycle—from concept, design planning, detailed engineering, and execution to handover.Prepare project master plans, timelines, and resource allocation plans.Review architectural and structural designs, BOQs, drawings, and specifications.Ensure all work complies with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and safety norms.3. Vendor, Contractor & Consultant Management
Identify, evaluate, and onboard contractors, architects, and consultants.Drive contracting processes including tendering, bid evaluation, negotiations, and awarding.Monitor vendor performance, work quality, and adherence to deadlines.Ensure strict control over materials, manpower, and cost deviations.4. Quality & Safety Compliance
Ensure all projects meet highest quality benchmarks as per engineering standards.Conduct periodic site inspections and audits.Enforce safety protocols and statutory compliance across all project sites.5. Team Leadership
Lead and mentor a team of engineers, supervisors, and site staff.Ensure team productivity, skill development, and performance excellence.Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.6. Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with internal stakeholders including Administration, HR, Finance, and Academic leadership for seamless project execution.Coordinate with government bodies, regulatory authorities, and external agencies for approvals and inspections.Provide periodic project progress reports to senior leadership.Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).Minimum 15+ years of experience in civil project management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role .Experience in handling large-scale institutional, educational, commercial, or residential projects.Strong understanding of construction technologies, contract management, and regulatory norms.Proven ability to manage multi-crore projects with tight deadlines.Key Skills & Competencies
