5. Position Overview :
As the Head of the Projects Business Unit, the candidate will lead GEMSL’s EPC journey—overseeing business growth, project delivery, and organisational excellence. This leadership role requires a strong blend of business acumen, technical expertise, and operational management. You will be responsible for developing strategy, driving execution, ensuring profitability, and building a high-performance team to deliver engineering and construction projects across the energy and infrastructure domains
6. Key Responsibilities :
1. Strategic Leadership
a) Define and implement the strategic roadmap for the PBU, aligned with GEMSL’s EPC ambitions.
b) Lead Annual Business Planning (ABP) and set financial, operational, and growth targets.
c) Drive business development and expansion initiatives, partnerships, and client acquisition in oil & gas, clean energy, and infrastructure markets (e.g., Datacentres, renewables, CBG, energy storage).
2. Business Development & Client Relations
a) Oversee Business Development & Sales, ensuring a healthy order pipeline.
b) Build long-term client relationships with PSUs, private clients, and global partners.
c) Represent GEMSL at industry forums, tenders, and strategic alliances.
d) Develop and execute the EPC business strategy aligned with company goals and market opportunities.
e) Identify new business prospects, lead bid strategies, and drive business development for EPC projects.
f) Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts, and profitability targets for the EPC vertical.
g) Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, clients, partners, and government authorities.
3. Project Execution & Operations
a) Oversee to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality execution of EPC projects.
b) Support Project leader to drive operational excellence through process mapping, risk management, and digital tools.
c) Review project KPIs regularly and take corrective actions.
4. Financial & Compliance Oversight
a) Full P&L ownership of the PBU (revenues, margins, collections, working capital).
b) Ensure compliance with BOCW Act, labour laws, HSE norms, and industry standards.
c) Collaborate with Finance & Accounts for budgeting, cost control, and audits.
d) Control project costs and drive profitability through effective contract management and cost optimization.
5. Team Leadership & Governance
a) Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team including Project Managers, QS, Procurement, HSE, Accounts.
b) Foster a performance-driven culture with clear KRAs, KPIs, and succession planning.
c) Drive learning & development initiatives to build technical and leadership capacity.
7. Qualifications and Requirements :
1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil; MBA preferred.
2. 15 -20 years of experience in EPC / Engineering & Construction, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
3. Proven track record of managing P&L, delivering large-scale EPC projects, and business expansion.
4. Strong knowledge of energy infrastructure (retail outlets, CNG / LCNG, LNG, EV charging, terminals, pipelines, etc.).
5. International exposure (South Asia / Middle East) will be an added advantage.
6. Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, Lean, Agile, etc.) and financial acumen.
7. Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
