Head – Design Engineer (Sheet Metal Fabrication)

Head Design Engineer will lead the design function for sheet metal fabrication, handle a team of design engineers, and drive end‑to‑end new product development (NPD) for enclosures, cabinets, and fabricated assemblies for industrial and commercial applications.​

Key responsibilities

Lead and manage the design team, allocate work, mentor juniors, and ensure on‑time delivery of all design activities.​

Own complete NPD lifecycle : concept, 3D modelling, prototyping, design validation, and release of drawings / BOMs for production.​

Design sheet metal parts and assemblies with proper bend allowances, weld details, tolerances, and GD&T suitable for fabrication.​

Review and approve 3D models, drawings, and ECOs before release; ensure correctness of BOMs and routings for manufacturing.​

Coordinate closely with production, quality, purchase, and sales to address manufacturability, cost, quality, and delivery requirements.​

Lead prototyping, trials, and design changes based on shop‑floor feedback and customer feedback; drive VA / VE and design improvements.​

Support tool room for jigs, fixtures, and basic tool / die requirements related to sheet metal parts.​

Establish and standardize design processes, drawing standards, checklists, and data management practices for the department.

Required skills

Strong hands‑on experience in sheet metal design and fabrication processes (laser / punching, bending, welding, grinding, powder coating, assembly).​

Excellent 3D CAD skills in tools such as SolidWorks / Solid Edge / Inventor / Creo, including sheet metal, assemblies, and drafting modules.​

Good knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA).​

Experience handling NPD projects independently and working directly with customers / marketing on technical requirements.​

Strong team‑handling, planning, and project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.​

Good communication skills in English; Kannada and Hindi will be an added advantage for shop‑floor coordination.​

Qualifications and experience

B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering (or equivalent diploma + strong experience).​

8–12 years of experience in sheet metal design, with at least 3–4 years in a team‑leading / lead design / NPD lead role in fabrication industry.​

Experience in enclosure / cabinet, panel, or similar sheet metal product lines preferred; exposure to ISO / quality systems is an added plus.

Work location and type

Work location : Magadi Road, Bengaluru – on‑site role with regular shop‑floor interaction.

Full‑time, six‑day working (or as per company policy) with readiness to support urgent project requirements and customer visits when needed.
