(A) JOB SUMMARY
As a Customer Engineer at Lepton Software, you will act as the primary technical trusted advisor for our diverse portfolio of Google Maps customers. Unlike a pre-sales role, your focus is on the "how" and the "now" helping customers realize the full potential of their investment.
You will guide clients through complex implementations, optimize their current usage, and drive the adoption of cutting-edge location intelligence features. You will be the bridge between our customer's engineering teams and the business value delivered by Google Maps.
(B) JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITY
Implementation & Onboarding
- Technical Onboarding : Lead the technical kickoff for new customers, guiding them through API key generation, quota management, and security best practices (IAM, restricting keys).
- Architecture Guidance : Advise customer engineering teams on the optimal architecture for integrating Google Maps APIs (Places, Routes, Maps JS) into their web and mobile applications to ensure scalability and performance.
- Code-Level Support : Provide code samples, snippets, and review client code to ensure seamless initial deployment.
- Production Forensics : Perform deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) when customers face issues in their production environments.
- Shadowing & Reproduction : actively "shadow" customer workflows and conduct live debugging sessions to reproduce intermittent bugs or edge-case errors that only occur in specific live scenarios.
Consultation & Optimization
o Performance Tuning : proactively analyze customer implementations to identify latency issues, unnecessary API calls, or rendering bottlenecks.
o Cost Optimization : Consult with clients on how to structure their API usage efficiently to maximize value while managing costs (e.g., caching strategies, session tokens vs. autocomplete).
o Health Checks : Conduct regular technical reviews (Quarterly Business Reviews) to audit the client’s tech stack and recommend improvements.
Adoption & Innovation
New Product Evangelism : Actively introduce customers to new Google Maps features and releases (e.g., Photorealistic 3D Tiles, Aerial View, Address Validation, Environment APIs) and demonstrate how these can solve specific business problems.Proof of Concept (Post-Sales) : Build mini-POCs to show existing customers how adding a new API or service could enhance their current application.Strategic Relationship Management
Trusted Advisor : Build deep relationships with the customer’s product managers and developers, becoming their go-to expert for anything location-related.Feedback Loop : Act as the voice of the customer, gathering product feedback and feature requests to share with Lepton’s internal product teams and Google’s engineering channels.(C) QUALIFICATION & SKILLSET
Experience
5+ years of experience in a Customer Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or Technical AccountManagement role, preferably within the SaaS, Cloud, or GIS industry.Proven track record of managing technical relationships with enterprise customers, specifically regarding implementation and adoption.Technical Skills
Google Maps Expertise : Deep, hands-on understanding of the Google Maps Platform (Maps, Routes, Places) and experience integrating them into real-world applications.Web & Mobile Development : Proficiency in JavaScript / TypeScript is essential. Familiarity with mobile development frameworks (Android SDK, iOS SDK, Flutter, or React Native) is highly preferred.Cloud Fluency : Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS, specifically regarding serverless functions, database integration, and API management.Data Skills : Ability to work with GeoJSON, KML, and spatial databases (PostGIS, BigQuery) is a plus.Soft Skills
