JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE : ENGINEER DESIGN

DEPARTMENT : Design

REPORTING : Senior Manager- Design

LOCATION : Sriperumbudur, Chennai

ROLE DEFINITION

A Senior Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of complex engineering projects, ensuring technical excellence and innovation. They collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and oversee the design process from concept to production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Heat Exchanger Design :

Lead the end-to-end design process for various types of heat exchangers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.

Perform advanced thermal and mechanical design calculations for shell-and-tube, air-cooled, plate, and finned heat exchangers using industry-standard tools and software.

Develop detailed engineering drawings and specifications using advanced CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other engineering tools.

Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations to optimize designs for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

2. Technical Expertise :

Ensure heat exchanger designs comply with international standards, including ASME, TEMA, API, and other regulatory guidelines.

Analyze material selection and structural integrity for different applications, ensuring durability and efficiency.

Support design improvements by implementing innovative engineering practices to enhance heat exchanger efficiency.

Evaluate alternative design approaches to optimize cost and performance while maintaining compliance with technical specifications.

3. Quality and Compliance :

Ensure that all designs meet regulatory and quality requirements for applications in oil & gas, chemical, power, and heavy industries.

Work closely with the production and quality assurance teams to address manufacturability, safety, and performance challenges.

Conduct design reviews and validation processes to ensure robust and fail-safe designs.

Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to source suitable materials and components for heat exchanger production.

4. Documentation and Reporting :

Maintain thorough design documentation, including design calculations, technical reports, test data, and engineering specifications.

Ensure accurate revision control and documentation management in ERP systems.

Prepare technical presentations for management and clients, explaining design choices, project progress, and engineering justifications.

Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies for project bids.

5. Client and Project Management :

Collaborate with clients, sales teams, and project managers to understand technical requirements and provide customized design solutions.

Present design proposals, feasibility reports, and engineering solutions to clients and address their feedback effectively.

Support the project execution team in ensuring alignment between design intent and final product realization.

Assist in troubleshooting field performance issues and suggest corrective actions for installed heat exchangers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education : B. E Mechanical / B.Tech Mechanical Engineering

Experience : 3-7 years in heat exchanger design, preferably in the oil and gas manufacturing industry. Experience leading complex design projects is essential.

Technical Skills : Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and engineering tools specific to heat transfer and thermodynamics.

Industry Knowledge : Familiarity with international standards such as ASME, TEMA, and API.

Soft Skills : Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
