Role Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Mechanical CAD Engineer with strong SolidWorks capability to convert design briefs into precise 3D models and manufacturing-ready drawings. This role focuses on component-level development, ensuring parts are accurately designed, manufacturable, and ready for supplier production.
The ideal candidate has strong fundamentals in mechanical design, excellent drafting skills, and an understanding of DFM / DFA and GD&T.
Key Responsibilities
1. 3D Modelling & Part Development
Interpret design briefs from the engineering or industrial design team.
Create accurate 3D models of components in SolidWorks.
Develop assemblies when required to check fit, alignment, and functionality.
Ensure designs adhere to engineering standards, load considerations, and functional requirements.
2. Engineering Drawings & Documentation
Generate precise 2D manufacturing drawings with proper dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, surface finishes, and material specifications.
Create BOMs, revision sheets, and supporting documents as required.
Maintain drawing accuracy to ensure seamless supplier communication and zero ambiguity.
3. Supplier Enablement & Production Support
Prepare drawings and documentation suitable for machining, fabrication, moulding, or other manufacturing processes.
Review supplier questions and provide clarifications on part dimensions, GD&T, and assembly requirements.
Conduct basic DFM checks to ensure manufacturability and reduce iterations.
4. Internal Collaboration
Work closely with the Product Engineering, Industrial Design, and R&D teams to ensure parts meet functional and aesthetic goals.
Collaborate with testing and production teams for validation and improvements.
Revise designs based on feedback, testing results, or production constraints.
5. Quality & Version Control
Maintain version-controlled CAD files and drawing releases.
Ensure all documentation follows Exelmoto's internal standards.
Keep track of revisions, part numbers, and design updates.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
Strong command of SolidWorks (Parts, Assemblies, Drawings ).
Knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, and drafting standards.
Understanding of materials (metals, plastics, composites) and basic mechanical principles.
Familiarity with DFM / DFA for CNC machining, sheet metal, fabrication, and casting.
Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings.

Structured documentation habits and version control discipline
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
1–4 years experience in CAD design (SolidWorks)
Experience in automotive, EV, consumer products, or machinery preferred
Freshers with exceptional CAD portfolios may be considered
