An interior designer creates functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing indoor spaces by planning, designing, and executing projects from concept to completion. Key duties include meeting with clients to define their needs, creating detailed plans using design software, selecting materials and furniture, and collaborating with contractors and architects to bring the vision to life.

Key responsibilities

Client consultation : Meet with clients to understand their project requirements, budget, and aesthetic preferences.

Space planning : Analyze and plan the use of space to ensure it is both functional and meets the client's objectives.

Design development : Develop design concepts, create mood boards, and produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings or renderings using design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp.

Material and furniture selection : Choose and source materials, fabrics, lighting, furniture, and other decorative elements.

Project management : Estimate project costs, set schedules, and oversee the project's progress from start to finish.

Collaboration : Work with architects, contractors, electricians, painters, and other professionals to ensure the design is executed correctly.

Regulatory compliance : Research and ensure that designs comply with building codes and safety regulations.

Essential skills and qualifications
